View Full Version : An honest request for the "left"...

iustitia

I'm hoping to understand more about the mindset of people beyond nonsense terms like 'left' and 'right'. I've often maintained that these are irrational labels held over from the French revolution and misapplied to contemporary politics and wrongly incorporated into the American lexicon. I'm fairly sure of the response to this query from those on the 'right'. With that said, I'm looking for any intellectually honest leftists that are willing to humor me.

Request:

1. Watch this video, all of it-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFDe5kUUyT0

2. Answer this question-

Do you disagree with what this video presents, what specifically and why?

Those who do not identify as "left" I would request that you do not respond to this topic or harass leftist posters for their responses. Those who are "left" I ask that you actually watch the video for real and give an honest response with any snarky comments about whatever. If you don't want to watch the video or answer the question, that's fine, but then please don't post. I appreciate those willing to take the time out of their day to fulfill this request, and I hope that if you don't think this is worth your time that you won't derail the topic.

Thank you.

Interesting take. But I have to ask you something.

What is wrong with labels and profiles? The human mind has an inherent need for organization, we associate things as mathematical functions when certain criteria are met. That is why we name things, I don't call a cat a dog, I call a dog a dog, because it is a dog. Not a table saw, giraffe, or a cat - but a dog.

Is it because you are sick of the negativity (I'm with you there), or you just don't like broad brushes and want others to perceive others as individual human beings?

Or is there another reason altogether?

so lets get this straight... in a thread decrying labels, the o/p only wants responses from people who identify as left...

anyone else see a problem there?

Left = Care

Right = Don't Care

The results are obvious

I'm no lefty (thank GOD), but I can't imagine how or why any lefty would want to suffer through a half hour video describing their leftist ideology.
I certainly won't be trying to humor you here, but I feel its my job to tell you why people call you leftists, progressives, commies, liberals or
socialists etc. Here are a few descriptive words or phrases that might help you understand the leftist perspective or the leftist mindless-set.

Well, I watched the video this afternoon and I think that I agree in many points. However I missed many parts because I didn't understand many economic terms. I had two difficulties: Pure economics and English.

But I don't disagree with what is explained, at least the part that I watched that are about 15-20 minutes.

Sorry, I finally got bored. It is too boring for me the topic (economics) and plus it was in English and I had to focus too much to understand the video. However I have to say the accent of the English was good and for me, as a foreigner was easy to understand.

Well, I had to research for example I.O.U. "I Owe You" is the meaning, no? Thanks wikipedia :)

But, now that I've rewatched it, I see that I disagree with a few things. That it's not possible to know who owns the Federal Reserve. I read somewhere that it was owned by the main banks, the 4 or 5 main banks of USA were who had the stockholers of the Federal Reserve.

Also I have doubts about the implicit defense of going back to the gold system, however it is true that I believe it is much better than the todays.

Ah, a term that I don't understand well is Fiat Currency.

Fiat currency is currency based on debt. People's promises to pay in the future.

Yes, I have been aware of this shell game for many years. Too many are ignorant of the implications. The question is when will it all implode? Ever notice how the banks invite all manner of people eligible to work to apply for credit cards or actually send credit cards to teenagers? The banking system runs on indebtedness. Fiat currency. People with money invest in tangibles. Things that cannot be wiped out when the house of cards comes tumbling down. If you have anything to invest, put it into real estate, art, gold, precious metals - things that will be worth something, no matter what happens. This has nothing to do with left or right - it is basic mathematics.

Fiat currency is currency not backed by anything like gold or silver. Pretend money, money based on faith.

The problem with partisan politics is that it can be blinding to reality. You can be left or right, but not a partisan and see the corruption that has infested the system and essentially controls every government, irrespective of political bent. I think that the polarity of partisanship is a result of the frustration and the desire for change. Unfortunately elections alone will not change the dynamic. There will have to more - a movement to repatriate government to the people where money will not be bled off to corporate corruption with the co-operation of elected officials.

That is why I like freeze dried or dehydrated goods. But even then, most foods don't store vitamin content very long at all unless kept on ice. Your minerals and carbohydrate value will likely be fine, but vitamins? Not so much.

I think a book on how to identify edible weeds would help in that department. Things like wild asparagus, wild onion, dandelion, chicory, wood sorrel, clover, burdock (plant that makes burrs), plantain etc are all edible.

There's two schools of thought when it comes to being a prepper. There's the one school, where you outfit and supply a defensible fortress. In that scenario, it might not be wise to advertize your plans to the world.

The second option is to have wilderness skills and live close to vast wilderness areas; know where the deer and wild pigs and quail are; know where the clean water springs are; know how to identify edible wild plants; know how to build shelters and a concealed fire; know how to hunt and trap without carrying a lot of heavy ammo and complicated weapons; know how to fish with a stick and line and a hook; be immune to poison oak; be tolerant of mosquito bites; be able to survive without toilet paper; have 20-20 vision; be trained to exercise without many calories; know every trail and stream like a coyote; and have a really sturdy pair of boots.

In other words, live like a savage in the Amazon. Why would anyone be proud of knowing those skills? It's also childish, like being proud of becoming an expert at playing tag or marbles.
