“Democrats are going to lose seats, there is no question about that,” said Jennifer Duffy, who follows Senate races for the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.

Hoping to offset losses and make it more difficult for Republicans to net the six seats that would hand them the majority, Senate Democrats are taking aim at Republican-held seats in Georgia, an open contest, and Kentucky, where they hope to defeat Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican leader and 30-year Senate veteran who has seen his popularity dip back home.

Its January, its frankly way too early to tell. I remember back after the 2008 election, nobody said the Republicans could retake the House and they did. So, don't discount any possibility 10+ months out. The swing voters can prove to be quite fickle.

Political predictions are extremely hard to make, unless you're a math or science geek like Nate Silver. It's almost impossible to predict how an election will go almost a year before it takes place.

When Obama had a really shitty year in 2012, getting embroiled in scandal after scandal, I thought it was almost like a cosmic handout to the GOP. Then, like the GOP usually does, they fucked it up and Obama won. Predictions are mostly just partisan and meaningless.

The GOP is gifted at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. The collective Democrat congressional caucus could be caught in a satanic ritual with child molestation and human sacrifice and the GOP would still do something stupid and lose.
