You know, that would be a great YouTube event for us anarchist types to do. Since there is the GOP response and the Tea Party response to the SOTU, why not the libertarian response, and the anarchist response?

You can't help but do better than Obama:

As was widely predicted, that was pretty much a nothingburger of a State of the Union (http://www.cbsnews.com/news/obamas-2014-state-of-the-union-address-full-text/), full of phantom executive actions, rehashed policy proposals that have yet to find any footing, pleading with Congress to “do something,” and the flailings of a president fighting against the imminent onslaught of lame-duckery — and kinda’ middling on some of the hardcore red meat for which some factions of the progressive base were hoping (although I have noidea where the whole “close Guantanamo (http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/obama-wants-this-to-be-year-we-close-guantanamo-bay)” revival came from. Wut.).

http://hotair.com/archives/2014/01/28/the-state-of-the-union-six-down-and-two-to-go/

Best summary of it I've seen yet. Right to the point.

OBombedIt got a couple things right. He said that America isn't standing still. That's for sure, it is in wholesale decline on his watch. Well except for the one percent.

Also, he says that climate change is a fact. Yes it is. Since the planet has had a climate, that climate has changed. I guess this is what they teach you in humanities courses.

I was glad to see the child in the OP was a pimply faced boy for only a pimply faced boy could consider that an answer to the sotu.

repost:

I pledge well I sorta pledge that society be free of all infringements on whatever I don't like now or in the future but also if I change my mind I may need to alter my pledge say for instance if my house burns down because of unsafe appliances or some other thing like the firemen never came or a forest fire was left to burn and it burned down my house, and since I dont like structure or rules I want a job where I can come and go as I please, and if sick and unable to diagnosis or repair myself I still want doctors but if they are free like me I may die but then thats ok too for who wants doctors that have to abide my rules and procedures and even use tested medicine for we anarchists can test our own remedies and also I want a car and roads that have no regulation or structure for that would conflict with my belief that we are free and oh yea maybe a doctor will be a volunteer and like me free of government imposed rules regulations, safety procedures I mean didnt we once long ago just do whatever we wanted like hunt animals, and pick fruit from trees, and who needs inspections of this stuff for that would be in opposition to our pledges and rules and regulation and other stuff I still havent thought of also I am so free I dont use any punctuation cause that would mean that I listened to some authority which I of course dont but then these words came to me from authorities but note I am free to use them as I want or not use them just like this pledge preamble and constitution could change without notice or even without being rewritten for it too represents structure and order and form and stuff and thus contradicts our whole beliefs system which isnt really a system .... got it.

when you have to create a strawman to defeat someone else's position that's pretty weak, it's even weaker when you have to dismiss by age or disparage looks.

We could certainly call what you believe old and tired and out of touch with the youth. Oh wait.

Anarchists are communal. We happen to believe that communities can care for each other and don't need to insert the violence and brutality of a corporate driven state. Here I have something from your generation. It still applies.

no offense, son.

life has rules.

and not just the ones that pretend libertarians (not referring to you) want.

that does not mean that all rules are good ones and that some shouldn't be changed.

but it does mean that grown ups don't stamp their feet when they get a traffic ticket.

Anarchy has rules. It's all about rules. The difference is in who and what enforces them. We don't believe in a vicious monopoly of force.

This is what statism brings us in mass scale

I never watch State of the Union addresses. Inevitably, I hear some of it on the news (radio or TV). I don't have TV at home, but I'm rarely home these days and the places I stay tend to always have television. The thing that glares out at me most of all about SOTUAs, and the only thing I ever really notice, is the forced clapping after every statement. It's comical; the bad acting of the VP and Speaker, one nodding with a well-rehearsed pose of rapture, and the other with the dour expression of a community theater amateur.

Anarchy is a practice, more than a set of beliefs. Many anarchists ignore politics altogether, and discipline themselves in an effort to live decoupled from it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism

Anarchism is a political philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_philosophy) that advocates stateless societies (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stateless_society) often defined as self-governed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-governance) voluntary institutions,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-1)[2] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-2)[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-3)[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-4) but that several authors have defined as more specific institutions based on non-hierarchical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchy) free associations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_association_(communism_and_anarchism)).[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-5)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-iaf-ifa.org-6)[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-7)[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-8) Anarchism holds the state (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_(polity)) to be undesirable, unnecessary, or harmful.[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-definition-9)[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-slevin-10) While anti-statism is central, some argue[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-11) that anarchism entails opposing authority (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Authority) orhierarchical organization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hierarchical_organization) in the conduct of human relations, including, but not limited to, the state system.[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-iaf-ifa.org-6)[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-12)[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-13)[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-14)[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-Ward_1966-15)[16] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-16)[17] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-17)As a subtle and anti-dogmatic philosophy, anarchism draws on many currents of thought and strategy. Anarchism does not offer a fixed body of doctrine from a single particular world view, instead fluxing and flowing as a philosophy.[18] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-18) There are many types and traditions of anarchism, not all of which are mutually exclusive.[19] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-19) Anarchist schools of thought (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_schools_of_thought) can differ fundamentally, supporting anything from extremeindividualism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individualism) to complete collectivism.[10] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-slevin-10) Strains of anarchism have often been divided into the categories of social (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_anarchism) and individualist anarchism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individualist_anarchism)or similar dual classifications.[20] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-black_dict-20)[21] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-socind-21) Anarchism is often considered a radical left-wing ideology,[22] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-brooks-22)[23] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-23) and much of anarchist economics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_economics) andanarchist legal philosophy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_law) reflect anti-authoritarian interpretations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libertarian_socialism) of communism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-communism), collectivism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collectivist_anarchism), syndicalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism), mutualism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mutualism_(economic_theory)), or participatory economics (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Participatory_economics).[24] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-24)
Anarchism as a mass social movement (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_movement) has regularly endured fluctuations in popularity. The central tendency of anarchism as a social movement has been represented by anarcho-communism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_communism) and anarcho-syndicalism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism), with individualist anarchism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Individualist_anarchism) being primarily a literary phenomenon[25] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-25) which nevertheless did have an impact on the bigger currents[26] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-26) and individualists have also participated in large anarchist organizations.[27] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-27)[28] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-28) Many anarchists oppose all forms of aggression (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-aggression_principle), supporting self-defense (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-defense) or non-violence (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-violence) (anarcho-pacifism (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-pacifism)),[29] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-ppu.org.uk-29)[30] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-Anarchism_1962-30) while others have supported the use of some coercive (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coercion) measures, including violent revolution and propaganda of the deed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propaganda_of_the_deed), on the path to an anarchist society.[31] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism#cite_note-31)

Yeah, just like Disney - one or two days is fun but it gets stressful and boring after a while.

Yes, it is definitely less amusing and more boring all the time. But it really does serve to illustrate my point about where this board is going wrong and it started by allowing a Cigar to run amuck and post tens of thousands of race and partisan bait threads. Next thing you know, half of the posts are being made by an obviously mentally ill individual.

But, hey, it keeps the post count up. Which seems to be a big priority here.

I have a question: can you explain briefly the process of voting in USA?

- Register: Do you have to register as a voter of a party, Democrat or Republican? Can I register, for example, as Green Party? Or am I Independent?

- If I don't want to register I cannot vote and neither I figuere in the statistics of voters?

- If I am registered as Democrat, must I vote Democrat? The same for any party which I could be registered.

For the POTUS primaries you can only vote for the party you're registered to (ie: a registered Democrat can only vote in the Democratic primaries). Otherwise you can vote for whoever you want to for the most part - POTUS, state, local, etc.

Ah ok, I understand.

And as Independent what can you do? You only can vote in POTUS, state, local...

You can be registered as Green Party voter, no? Because it is a registered party. But the example that you gave as Anarchist Party, it is a nonexistent party so they placed you in Independent, am I right?

Well, when y'all are actually ready to act like grown ups and stop stamping your feet every time someone says something you disagree with, we'll talk.

Until then, acting like you're better than everyone else just serves to piss people off. I know you think you and your side are politically invincible, but one of these days your smug attitude is going to cost you, and I hope I'm there to see you fail.

That's not capitalism; that's mercantilism.

The founders KNEW the dangers of unregulated industry folks

Do you understand that banks were given government charters and monopolies? That IS regulated industry.

The 'regulations' the Founders supported were copyright and patent laws, laws against theft, laws against searches and seizures, protection of private property, a common currency, treaties with foreign nations, and tariffs on imports. They did not support "regulation" of business. Big business can't exist WITHOUT big government to help it. All labor laws, anti-trust laws and outlawing of products are merely state-business collusion that enable the very corruption they claim to oppose. The American revolution was a capitalist revolution against royal innovation, taxes, mercantilism and state-imposed monopolies.

A druid strives to maintain a perpetually evolving balance. I have to sympathize a bit with Hobbes, because he was writing within the context of chaos and all-out civil war and a total breakdown of civilization throughout Europe.

Today, as more and more human choices are being overtaken by an overbearing Leviathan, it's a natural reaction to rebel against it. And I don't relish the thought that the Surveillance State will eventually create a situation where there are no secrets, and all human decisions will be made on the basis of reward and consequence, rather than according to conscience.

It's an ideology, not a physical thing. But no, I've yet to find a socialist community in Tennessee for me. I know there's at least one, but I haven't located them. They run a good deli here in town though.

You considered Europe or Canada?

Big business didn't get big until the SCOTUS made it that way. Who appointed those justices? Politicians bought and paid for by business....

The notorious 1886 case of Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad (http://caselaw.lp.findlaw.com/scripts/getcase.pl?court=us&vol=118&invol=394) is just one in a long series of Supreme Court cases that entrenched "corporate personhood" in law. Justices since have struck down hundreds of local, state and federal laws enacted to protect people from corporate harm based on this illegitimate premise. Armed with these "rights," corporations wield ever-increasing control over jobs, natural assets, politicians, even judges and the law.

We believe corporations are not persons and possess only the privileges citizens and their elected representatives willfully grant them. Our Amendment will reverse the Court’s invention of "corporate personhood" and limit corporations to their proper role: doing business.

Not Canada, but the wife and I have considered moving to Norway or Scotland if the shit hits the fan here beyond what living in our own community would help.

Now go help us DO something about it...That's not quite right. The courts may have legitimized it, but business-gov collusion were going on long before that. For Democrats it was Slave Power, and the GOP was bought and paid for by railroad since Lincoln's armies cleaned out the frontier of Indians. Not to mention the history of the banking elites and the heavy use of protectionism to protect special interests of the merchant class.

Big business and big government can not exist without eachother. Government seeks the industrial vitality of business, and business seeks regulation of the market through monopoly of force and elimination of competition.

This collusion of business and government is why I am an anarchist. We come in all flavors. I'd rather have more freedom and the ability to take care of my friends and work together with them than less freedom and being told how we can interact.

I'm an anarchist not because, as some pretend, I hate government, but because I love liberty. Just another way if repeating what you said.

But you still don't get it that the big government you love so much is half the equation.

All economic policies adopted by admins since '81 have to be abandoned to fix the economy.

The system needs an overhaul, not bigger government. We need free markets, not monopoly capitalism. We need to break up business conglomerates and generate competition among companies, especially in the oil and health care industries, to bring down the cost of their products.

We need to get rid of the trade deficit and outsourcing and link the minimum wage with the cost of living.

I look at the 1960's. You had the Civil Rights Movement, the women's movement, the anti-war movement and people were out in the streets making democracy happen and then--JFK is shot, people say Johnson and the CIA had him killed, Bobby Kennedy is killed by a guy who swears our government put him up to it, Malcom X swore that the CIA was after him, the CIA's MK Ultra was feeding LSD and involved with the Grateful Dead of all bands, ...Gloria Steinem was even involved with the CIA!

Do we think the government got nicer all of a sudden? Reagan? Bush was the CIA director, Clinton and Hillary are tied to the CFR, Bush Jr and Obama are NSA/CIA whores--look at the spying and drone programs.

The second a movement like Occupy or even the Tea Party gets going they get infiltrated by corporate and government sponsors.

Fixing this system won't happen.

What a plan.

So we have an ineffective, hugely inefficient, wasteful, bloated, oppressive whore of a government. Your recommendation is to vastly expand it... then fix it.

More liberal brilliance.

i wonder when the so-called anarchists are going to realize how childish *they* sound.

Yes, because self-reliance, non-aggression, and market economies are sooooo childish...

no offense, son.

life has rules.

Oh, wow, what a profound sentiment, life has rules. Such novel commentary.

and not just the ones that pretend libertarians (not referring to you) want.

that does not mean that all rules are good ones and that some shouldn't be changed.

but it does mean that grown ups don't stamp their feet when they get a traffic ticket.

As usual, nothing of substance, just a heap of platitudinous tripe.

nothing to be afraid of

I'm not attempting to instill fear in anyone. As a voluntaryist, I rely on persuasion and communication to achieve reform. But just because I'm peaceful does not mean I am incapable of expressing anger over systemic injustice and ignorance. I feel there is far more to learn about from listening to that song than there is in listening to Obama's SOTU. Sorry if my expression makes you feel insecure, but maybe you should seek counseling for that...
