View Full Version : The Painful Irony of Michelle Obama's $12,000 Dress

Earlier this week President Obama and the First Lady hosted French President Francois Hollande at the White House for an official state dinner. It was quite the affair with caviar, quail eggs, rib-eye and chocolate-malted ganache.
In case you don't remember, Hollande is a full blown French socialist who deeply believes the only way to help the poor is by demonizing and soaking the rich. Hollande is currently moving forward with his plan in France to tax millionaires 75 percent after receiving approval from a court. President Obama holds similar views and has repeatedly told the rich they need to "pay their fair share" so that the rest of us can have a fair shot at life.
But it's difficult to take these positions seriously when the people taking them engage in the very lifestyles they claim to abhor. Take for example Michelle Obama, who wore a $12,000 Carolina Herrera designer gown to the state dinner earlier this week. Just a few weeks before the dinner, President Obama argued income inequality is a major problem facing our America. CNSNews (http://www.cnsnews.com/mrctv-blog/michael-w-chapman/michelle-s-12000-dress-cost-more-median-yearly-household-income)noticed the cost of her dress is more than the average household income worldwide.

The blue and black designer dress that first lady Michelle Obama wore to Tuesday’s state dinner for the French president reportedly cost between $10,000 and $12,000, according to news media, which is more than the median annual household income worldwide of $9,733, and greater than the median income for households in at least 87 countries, according to data from Gallup.

Should Obama and Michelle lead by example? I don't expect her to wear a dress from Sears, but seriously? She could find something a little less pricey? I thought Obama was upset with rich people. Apparently he enjoys living like one.

Liberals obviously don't. They can talk shit about the "evil rich people" in this country while their guy does whatever he pleases. Seems very hypocritical to me, but I don't expect a leftie to understand that.

That is true. But they would still be considered 1%ers. Didn't Obama say in his last SOTU address that income inequality was one of the major issues in this country? You would think he would want to at least give the appearance of actually meaning what he said. I guess those were just more words spoken for the benefit of his supporters and had no real meaning, like most everything he says.

That would be a good question for Obama. Why does he want to redistribute wealth from the "rich" to the "poor"? It is not up to him to decide how much money is enough money nor to take money away from some people and give it to others. Only a liberal would think that they can fix poverty by giving money to the "poor" rather than letting them earn it. Low income people have been getting handouts for years and all it has resulted in is a sub-class of people who are either unwilling or unable to earn their own way. Welfare is supposed to be temporary, not a livelong entitlement.

Maybe anwser this first because it is the majority of what is being redistributed:

Why does he (and congress who does the actual spending) continue to redistribute wealth up to the "rich"?

That is very easy! It is because we have policies in place that discourage economic expansion in this country, thus creating a glut of qualified labor and keeping wages low, and people dependent on government handouts.

The you have to ask yourself which part benefits by those on government hand outs. and you will have your final answer, Power!

Depends on what you all seem to think is "handouts" zel.

The Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that I and the rest of working America has paid into these last decades.... those ones?

I think that to some extent this is true, though many that qualify for Medicaid, did not pay into it! because they refuse to work!

The real problem that I have with SS is that it is theft of wealth!

There is NO investment that could possible preform a poorly as the current SS system

Does anyone know whether the first lady even has to pay for these dresses or are they given to her in exchange for designer bragging rights?
