If a bunch of thugs demanded payment for protection there are those who would justify it since you choose to live where you do.

The Affordable Coffee Act (http://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/02/eric-peters/if-the-feds-can-make-health-care-affordable/)

I mean, why not?

If government – using its magical powers – can make health care “affordable” why not make everything people need (and hell, everything they want) affordable?

It’s a little mean-spirited to lower the cost of going to the doctor, but do nothing to make a Starbucks latte – or a new Corvette – cost less, if government has the power.

Everyone a millionaire! A turkey in every pot! Six pack abs for all!

Maybe everyone has a right to a best friend and a good head of hair, too.

You’d have to be what they call in Vegas a mark to believe it.

And yet, people do believe it.

More, they demand it.

Give us affordable health care care! Affordable housing!

Inevitably, they will demand affordable coffee, too.

As Captain Picard used to say, make it so.

But, deep down, they do not believe in magic. They know (they must know) that government – which is just other people, after all – cannot conjure things into existence any more than they can conjure things into existence.

Things have to be made by someone.

But government has one thing they don’t have – the physical power to take things from some people (those who made them) and give those things to other people (those who did not make them) . . . and the psychological power to induce resignation and acceptance among those who made the things that were taken and given to others. To regard it as normal, legitimate. The price of living in society. Our civic duty.

And it has to work in a market system? Or it can work in other system? Is the only viable system the market?

The greed and the coercion by money are the only ways to work? Or that are the best ways to keep the power of the ones that hold it?

And now going to the today's system. Why not look why systems with nationalized systems of education and healthcare are cheaper than private systems?

Healthcare spending according OECD.

In the Guardian (http://www.theguardian.com/news/datablog/2012/jun/30/healthcare-spending-world-country)

Education. Also you can see that Finland spends less in education than other countries like Spain and gets better results.

Why not a system of gift economy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gift_economy)?

How about an Affordable College Act?

Tennessee is already a pioneer in that regard, thanks to our new Tennessee Promise plan.

I can't get on the bandwagon here. The issue isn't that they are trying to make healthcare affordable, the issue is that they are going about it all wrong.

I just hope the tax on tea in the USA stays at reasonable levels. I dont want you guys getting all cranky and starting a rebellion again. I know how passionate Americans are about affordable tea. And I agree. Whenever the tax on my tea rises too high for my liking I toss it into the ocean and overthrow the government. Of course.

Coffee is already subsidized the the federal government.

That's why tuition has risen at rates several times that of inflation.

Why not a system of gift economy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gift_economy)?

Read I, Pencil (http://www.econlib.org/library/Essays/rdPncl1.html) and explain how a pencil will get built in a give or gift economy.

So is the sugar people put in it.

Funny how that makes it more expensive.
