Republicans stopped the veterans bill from moving on a procedural vote, which needed 60 votes.
The final tally was 56-41.
Republicans and Democrats normally agree on the need to enhance benefits for the nation’s 22 million veterans and their families, but

Republican senators wanted to lower the amount of spending in the bill. The GOP senators also wanted to include a measure that would have imposed new sanctions against Iran, which President Obama has warned against doing at this time. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid blocked the amendments from being considered.

“Shame on the Republicans for bringing base politics into a bill to help the veterans,” Reid said on the Senate floor Thursday morning.

The bill would have improved benefits for veterans, including better health care and dental services provided by the VA. It also would have guaranteed post-9/11 veterans access to in-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities in any state.

The Republicans are just as clueless as the Democrats. It's why people should reject them, as well.

They always want to go to war with someone. ((shakes head))

So veterans benefits bills are sacred cows that should be ratified regardless of what's in them? Does anyone know the economics of the bill and what the GOP wants?

The former is a loaded question that's I posed for discussion purposes.

The fact that they want to attach Iran sanctions to it is my problem.

Why they give a shit about what? Veterans? It's an election year. They've had five years with the Senate and a president who stalled on every single promise to vets for 5 years now about fixing our benefits system.

It's still broken and Obamacare is up and running. Don't pretend we're a priority because that's total bullshit.

Why is this inconsistent for the Chickenhawk Party? When will Americans admit that these tough-talking sissyboys and flag-waving deserters should have been drafted at 18 during the Vietnam era and taken their chances just like real Americans had to? No college deferments, no easily bribable or college-graduate prejudiced draft boards, no perversion of the mission of the Guard and Reserves into being hideouts for unpatriotic rich cowards, no physical exemptions that didn't show up on the Induction Physical (medical textbook exemptions that certain expensive doctors specialize in).

All this treason not only included the brats of the rich, but the class-climbing brown-noses who made themselves useful to them, like Dick Cheney. The same types lead the younger generations, so get rid of the voluntary army, which was set up only because people were getting wise to this dereliction of duty. Look at Romney's Rambos, slimeball cowards who claimed that passing out campaign literature for their Daddy was equivalent to putting themselves in harm's way in the What So Proudly We Halliburton wars.

They keep starting wars for the rich mans interests and keep sending our kids your damn right they should be sacred cows.

Do you even realize how many young men and women have to live their lives broken with lost limbs and and a whole host of other issues. Do you even know what war does psychologically to some. Capt these are youths mostly. Young people, married with kids.
If they dont want to pay their fuckin benfefits to take care of them, then stop sending them to get mangled and making young widows and widowers and children fatherless and motherless. Damn right they should be sacred cows as far as im concerned.

We have a volunteer army because the rich pieces of shit didnt want to be bothered getting around the draft so their little bastards didnt have to risk their lives. They didnt have to waste their time getting deferments.
During the nam war the rich kids all went to college and partied on deferments because DaDa could afford it. Daddy paid drs to create the need for medical deferments. The rich didnt fight the wars.

Do you have evidence refuting it? In the past 20 years, which party's president has done more military action?

Democrats don't usually start wars, but they don't necessarily end them. Republicans start wars all the friggin time. It is common knowledge.
