Senate Republicans have blocked a Democratic bill that would enrich health, education and job-training programs for the nation's 22 million veterans.

Republicans complained that the bill was too expensive. And they were upset that Majority Leader Harry Reid prevented a vote on a GOP amendment cutting the bill and adding sanctions against Iran for its nuclear program.

I am against the Iraq war and against Afghanistan occupation but a nation needs soldiers ( governments make the decisions to wage wars not troops. ) All of this stuff about a modern military not needing solid troop numbers is nonsense. To invade and occupy you need invasion and occupation forces. A nation needs to keep soldiers happy and keeping them happy needs to be a priority. The US does need to cut military spending but the troops are the last place to cut not the first.

edit- I agree that in modern times a massive standing army is inefficient and too costly, but, well trained reserve forces should be the way of the future. And National Service like Israel.

Anyway, citizens that see veterans being treated poorly will be less likely to volunteer for a career in a national military.

First, Air Force "veteran"? I see. What was that "veteran" doing during the last decade? Looking out the window of his air conditioned office, most-likely.

Here's what THIS veteran knows.

1. Veteran's bills have all sorts of shit tied in with them that has absolutely NOTHING to do with us
2. Veteran's bills do not contain a large percentage of money for us, it is mostly for the bureaucracy which is supposed to support us
3. Neither party really truly gives a shit about us

The Democrats could have easily done what they did with Obamacare for us and didn't. Where's their shutdown of government over this? Where is their grandstanding?

This is just trying to use us to tug at the heartland that actually DOES care about us because their 2014 campaigns are going down. The neocon warhawks want Iran sanctions shoved in a veterans bill, the Democrats need new, young voters because they know that their favorability ratings with us sunk even lower with their social engineering.

This is 100% bullshit. Paul Ryan is a hawkish dick and I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire, but Bernie Sanders can suck a dick, too on this one because where was he when our disability software was all but forgotten about?

Fuck these pieces of shit and fuck the Air Force vet too. Where's he been the last couple years when the waiting in line was terrible and the floor of the building is buckling from forms that they can't enter into a nonexistent system?
