The Association of New Jersey Rifle (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/jersey-rifle/) and Pistol Clubs (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/pistol-clubs/) gave the draft legislation to top firearms experts in the country to determine what guns would fall under the expanded ban. They discovered that the bill would affect tube-fed (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/us-federal-reserve/), semi-automatic rifles because the magazine cannot be separated from the gun.
Thus, the experts found that at least 43 common rifles would suddenly be considered a prohibited “assault firearm,” such as the .22 caliber Marlin Model (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/marlin-model/) 60, Remington Nylon (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/remington-nylon/) 66 and Winchester 190.
Just having one such gun would turn a law-abiding owner into a felon overnight.

Possession of an “assault firearm” is a second-degree crime in New Jersey (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/jersey-rifle/). The penalty is up to 10 years in jail and a mandatory minimum sentence of three to five years, with no chance of parole.

“This bill is a gun ban, there’s no question about that,” Scott Bach (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/scott-bach/), the executive director of the Association of New Jersey Rifle and Pistol Clubs (http://www.washingtontimes.com/topics/association-of-new-jersey-rifle-and-pistol-clubs/), told me in an interview.

“If it becomes law, it would have zero impact on crime because criminals don’t follow bans. It would only affect legal gun owners by essentially tying their hands when they need to defend their lives.”

Even worse, the bill has no grandfather clause and no amnesty period. So as soon as this legislation becomes law, everyone in possession of these rifles is automatically a felon and the guns are subject to seizure by the government.

Remember just last May, these same legislators were caught on a hot microphone saying, “We needed a bill that was going to confiscate, confiscate, confiscate.”

This is why gun owners, the NRA needs to fight tooth and nail every change, every single proposal from the simplest most common-sensed changes because the anti-gun crew isn't proposing changes to make gun ownership safer, they want to inch toward gun restriction/elimination.

This is why. Fuck you progressives that you don't get it, you're not getting our guns. Period.

Whatever, ban guns. They who want to carry, will carry regardless of the law.

Criminals in many ways are more free than the law abiding citizens. <<< Think about that.

I have little interest in carrying. Thsi law could make me a felon overnight just for owning a particular weapon.

Its illegal in Jersey to carry a gun in your car in the state, even if you are from another state and just passing through.

Depends. You are only supposed to have a handgun in your car (only allowed in the trunk) on the way to and from an event or the range. Technically, if you stop at Wendy's for lunch you're breaking the law.

It's not the same with long guns.
