We all know a ship collided with a fuel barge in Galveston Bay. Initial reports were "A million gallons". Last report "up to 160,000 gallons" . Obviously, no one knows how much oil was actually dumped into the bay. While 160,000 gallons is a lot of oil it could be half that or a quarter of that. Of course, simply saying "a lot of oil was dumped" does not have nearly the impact as "a million gallons" per the initial reports.

Initial reports tend to be incorrect. But often, as it appears to be in this case, it shows the reporters' bias.

And it depends on how fast the recover ship can get on scene! They may be able to recover much of the oil.

This is what drives me crazy, if this was a pipeline burst on land it would be costly but total clean up could be achieved,

Liberals fight this, and have ships running all over the oceans and trains all over the land, not only causing a bigger threat tot he environment, but burning more energy as well!

This wasn't as bad as the time tanker carrying 500,000 gallons of blue paint collided with a tanker carrying 500,00 gallons of red paint. The crews were marooned for a month.

One ship got in front of another one. It could have been backing up.......

Don't be so close minded!

Isn't the sea big enough for God's sake?

to be fair we wouldnt have as many ships going all over the sea if we would use more clean, renewable sources

Because many of those ships are hauling oil or otherwise supporting that industry

well, we would actually, floating things is a fantastic way to move things cheaply. It's only the power of the boat that is at issue. Of course we wouldn't be floating oil around, but there's be other things....
