The “family” revolution has been prepared in Uzbekistan

On one of the weekends’ day in February 2012 there was held a meeting at the head of the government’ residence, situated in the center of Tashkent and known as “Shelkovichniy” (silky) among the local residents. Probably, this meeting will become crucial for this Central Asian republic in the nearest future.
From the sources close to the circle of the Uzbek leader’s daughter Gulnara Karimova it came out that she met with Rustam Azimov, the first vice-premier, in the residence. It should be mentioned, that the meeting was not advertised even among the relatives. Though, there are some suppositions regarding the subject matters of abovementioned “separate” negotiations. According to the sources, they talked about the mechanism of Rustam Azimov’s accession to power … and about appointment of Gulnara Karimova to the position of Uzbekistan’s prime minister. The conspirators discussed the ways of financing government redistribution, in order to avoid “poor” revolution. Thereupon, it is planned to realize a number of financial transactions, including oil and gas sector, power industry, and sale of some large properties – hotels, business centers and etc. to foreign investors. The proceeds will be used for financing advocacy, subornation of foreign political circles and representatives of Russian political and business elite.
Both Gulnara Karimova and Rustam Azimov clearly understand that the technologies of coup d'etat, developed in XX century, allow successful realizing the seizure of power practically in any country of the world. Especially in Uzbekistan.
The role of conspiracy as the political instrument is more significant in totalitarian and authoritarian social and political systems, where the issues of power and governance are concentrated among close political elite and solved in frame of not so much legal as personal interactions. The nature of personal relations between the parts of elite, their personal ambitions and efforts to get power are very important in such kind of systems. Rustam Azimov looks like “black horse”, but according to the Russian politicians he is the person who has a real chance to become the next Uzbek leader. Though Gulnara Karimova’s ambitions are very high, probably she understands that she have support neither from her inhabitants, nor from the West or Russia.
In Russian history the 40 years’ period after the Peter I death is called as “the time of palace revolutions”. The main reason was that Peter I did not appoint the heir to the throne. This fact let many palatial “groups” to struggle for power. A lot of direct and indirect heirs pretended for the throne.
The similar situation is in Uzbekistan. The aged Islam Karimov supposes that he as yet controls the country, but a majority of analytics already doubt about adequacy of his policy. The Karimov’s century of governing will not be long, but the Uzbek leader does not hurry to assign the successor, despite there is currently an extreme necessity to do it. Moreover, knowing his character that has been increased by old age features, the experts are sure that Karimov can not even imagine that somebody else, besides him, will take the power. Even concerning his relatives. Though there are some disagreements, this situation forces Gulnara Karimova to look for points of contact with Rustam Azimov, in order not to get into political or financial verge in case of unsuccessful outcome for her.
It must be taken into account that Lola Karimova, her full sister and rival of principal, gains strength recently. Karimov’s younger daughter’s political strong point may be connection with the organized criminal community through her husband – Timur Tillayev, one of the nearest assistants of Salim Abduvaliyev, the Uzbek criminal authority. As it is known, all Uzbek business elite, which was slightly frayed in the result of recent government repression, is practically wholly connected with shadow economy.
Thereby, the future of Karimov’s family is not determined yet. His relatives became hostages of his hypertrophic ambitions and his cruelty. Gulnara Karimova’s prospects will remain hazy even if Rustam Azimov will be a queen on the Uzbek “chess board”. Azimov is a “pro-Western” and enjoys the favour of the USA. The US administration can demand “her blood”, and she will lose everything.
In whole, the history shows that even successful coup d'etat, as a rule, are fraught with long-term negative consequences for the whole society. It is an artificial attempt to outrun or retard the evolutional development of the country and often lead to human casualties and repressions, boycotts of the world community. Anyway the chances of the interested parties are not great.

Good. We're the still the #1 forum in Uzbekistan. I was beginning to fear we were losing our status! When Uzbeks have an axe to grind, they come here, because they know we are an international source for justice and ass kicking.
