In the debate about poverty, critics argue that government assistance saps initiative and is unaffordable. After exploring the issue, I must concede that the critics have a point. Here are five public welfare programs that are wasteful and turning us into a nation of “takers.”

First, welfare subsidies for private planes. The United States offers three kinds of subsidies to tycoons with private jets: accelerated tax write-offs, avoidance of personal taxes on the benefit by claiming that private aircraft are for security, and use of air traffic control paid for by chumps flying commercial.

... Second, welfare subsidies for yachts. The mortgage-interest deduction was meant to encourage a home-owning middle class. But it has been extended to provide subsidies for beach homes and even yachts.

... Third, welfare subsidies for hedge funds and private equity. The single most outrageous tax loophole in America is for “carried interest,” allowing people with the highest earnings to pay paltry taxes. They can magically reclassify their earned income as capital gains, because that carries a lower tax rate (a maximum of 23.8 percent this year, compared with a maximum of 39.6 percent for earned income).

... Fourth, welfare subsidies for America’s biggest banks. The too-big-to-fail banks in the United States borrow money unusually cheaply because of an implicit government promise to rescue them. Bloomberg View calculated last year that this amounts to a taxpayer subsidy of $83 billion to our 10 biggest banks annually.

... Fifth, large welfare subsidies for American corporations from cities, counties and states. A bit more than a year ago, Louise Story of The New York Times tallied more than $80 billion a year in subsidies to companies, mostly as incentives to operate locally.

Just like Obama gave republicans credit for the HC idea,it certainly wasn't his he doesn't seem to have any fresh ideas. This isanother C&P by Cigar without knowledgeable information. Talk to your party:

Democrats and Republicans have conflicting ideas of how to increase tax revenue from the rich. Democrats want to raise the tax rates on the rich, increase taxes on investments, and increase the death tax to Clinton levels. Republicans want to keep tax rates low and eliminate loopholes and deductions. Why do they want to eliminate loopholes and the Democrats don’t?

Tax Loopholes explained (http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-a-tax-loophole.htm)
So called tax loopholes are not shady, illegal means of dodging taxes. They are legal means by which some rich people can avoid paying taxes. Tax loopholes are added to bills as they run through Congress. Congressmen ask for these earmark attachments to pay back their rich friends for supporting their campaigns. Earmarks are bargained for with the bill’s author for the congressman’s vote.

Whoever controls Congress gets to write in loopholes for their rich friends. While most rich people are paying high taxes, those in government and their buddies are paying less thanks to these loopholes. Over the last century, Democrats have controlled Congress 90% of the time. So if loopholes were closed it is mostly their friends and supporters who would have to pay the same taxes as other rich people.

This is the reason Obama and the Democrats hated Mitt Romney’s idea of closing loopholes. The rich people who support Democrats, Hollywood stars, billionaires like Warren Buffett and companies like G.E., get tax loopholes, while those who support Republicans are forced to pay much more. This is how corrupt politicians starve the opposition of campaign funding.

You need to make your mind up:

1. Do you want to end these loopholes like the republicans and Romney ran on?
or
2. Keep them like Obama wants to?

Your call, sometimes its better to just say uncle.

That said Clinton or Bush tax rates won't make us properous.......raising tax rates 3% doesn't create jobs. It won't lower gas prices or food prices. It won't help you pay your rising HC premiums. Some of the reasons you will not retain the Senate, very obvious.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has had plenty of criticism (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/11/02/harry-reid-mitt-romney-bipartisan_n_2065992.html) for 2012 Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, but during an appearance on ABC's "This Week," the Democrat said he's found one Romney view he agrees with.

While calling for more revenue to solve the nation's budget issues, Reid noted that Romney and other Republicans have supported (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/10/05/mitt-romney-tax-loopholes_n_1944027.html) closing tax loopholes.

"We need to keep our eye on the prize and continue doing something about spending, but I think that what we need to do is do some of the things that Mitt Romney talked about," Reid said (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/02/03/without-question-reid-says-more-revenue-needed-to-fix-budget-problems/). "He said there's some low-hanging fruit; there are a lot of tax loopholes that should be closed. I agree with him. We haven't done that."

Absolutely, but the politicians would lose the control over our spending behavior that the current tax code gives them, which of course allows them to whore out to the megacorps for higher rates
