It's on tonight! Unfortunately, I have to get up early in the morning so it will be early to bed for me. Hopefully I can catch a glimpse of a blood red Moon before it's over.

From what I understand it will occur between 3 and 5 in the morning. Forget if that's Eastern or Central. Here, from the previous link: "This first total lunar eclipse of 2014 is set to begin tonight (April 14) into the wee hours of Tuesday morning (April 15). The lunar eclipse is set to begin at about 2 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT), and it should last about 3.5 hours."

Anyone looking at this? Pretty cool.

It's almost completely covered.

Those in North America and awake step outside. Find the moon.

Crazy.

I had to go to bed early, but caught it about 0400 Central. About 25% was still covered.

I got up, but it was cloudy.

I've missed a few astronomical events myself due to the same reason.

I'm in Arizona and the skies were clear. I thought it was going to start at one AM so I almost missed it. I went out just before 11 PM to look at Mars and the eclipse was just starting. The one AM was Eastern time I guess. Mars was excellent. When the moon was in full eclipse you could see the twin giant blue stars next to it pretty well. The best lunar eclipse I have ever seen was back in 74,75 or 76, I can't remember now. It went into full eclipse just as it was rising in the east so it was a giant ball and rust red. It was awe inspiring. I saw that one in Colorado.

Skywatchers Looking Forward to Complete Lunar Eclipse
July 27, 2018 — Skywatchers around much of the world are looking forward to a complete lunar eclipse that will be the longest this century.

The so-called "blood moon" Friday, when it turns a deep red, will be visible at different times in Australia, Africa, Asia, Europe and South America when the sun, Earth and moon line up perfectly, casting Earth's shadow on the moon.

A super blue blood moon rises over Michmoret, Israel

The total eclipse will last 1 hour and 43 minutes, with the entire event lasting closer to four hours.

In a special treat, Mars is in opposition on Friday — meaning the planet and the sun will be on exact opposite sides of the Earth and will shine its best. Mars is also at its closest approach to Earth this week since 2003, making it appear bigger and brighter.
