If ridiculously strict gun control was passed tomorrow nation wide how would enforcement work? How would the same people that can't put a dent in drug trade, illegal immigration or exotic spiecies importation stop gangs from getting their hands on guns, Clearly the sheer number of felons ( who cannot legally possess a firearm under current law) shooting other felons tells us that we cannot stop gangs from getting guns. Therefore how the hell would your plan work?

They would put up signs telling people guns were bad and illegal! Like the gun free zones.

It's like the texting while driving laws.
It sounds good on paper.
The penalty for owning a gun is death,
time to get a cross bow.

Just like prohibition, people with money, influence and corruption will still drink while organized crime takes advantage of opportunities and becomes wealthier and stronger.

Gun control goes beyond that but I'll leave it there.

Everyone drank during prohibition- drinking skyrocketed. (Of course there were non-drinkers. Just making a point).

What you do is ban all firearms. You then get the following figures and cheer when they go down. If they go up you say, ‘we must do something’. Or better still, you just don’t believe it’s happening. The following figures are for London alone!

Gun Crime 2006-07 (3034)
Gun Crime 2007-08 (3429)
Gun Crime 2008-09 (3022)
Gun Crime 2009-10 (3460)
Gun Crime 2010-11 (2708)

Do an apples to apples comparison. They define things differently over there.

My point is that if you simply ban something, it doesn’t just go away as the UK thought it would; in fact over the years it doubled, but it’s now counted as a victory if numbers fall a couple of percent. There's no problem obtaining one in most inner city areas, it's just illegal.

They couldn't make it work any better than anti-drug laws which is why such a law wouldn't be passed today, tomorrow or anytime in the next few years.

A better plan, and the very plan they are working upon, is incremental; start with high capacity magazines and "military"-style rifles then expand those definitions in increments.

Example; high capacity is anything over 10. In 5-10 years make it 5 rounds. After that, no magazines at all. Revolvers would become the norm.

"Military" style would expand any semi-auto rifle over 5 shots and so forth.

Cool that just means people will be forced to learn how to shoot a bit better! Suppression fire will be popping heads like balloons or not shooting!

A point the liberals don't understand. Same goes for the survival nuts spending thousands on exotic weapons when they should be investing in their kid's college funds or their own 401k's .

Make no mistake, I fully support their right to own these weapons, but I don't plan on spending that much money on them myself. I'm happy with a the few arms I have like my Yugoslavian M24/47, bayonet and a large case of 8mm ammo.

Call me paranoid again and I'll goose you with my bayonet! http://imageshack.us/a/img21/2374/tgx.gif

A couple of thoughts;

1. Yes, some are pretty paranoid. Worse, they're pessimistic to the point of defeatism. I'm not one of them.

2. Some people enjoy collecting guns and shooting them as a hobby. I'm one of them.

3. A little "paranoia" is a good thing. It's an evolutionary defense mechanism. A lot of paranoia is counter-productive. Owning a few guns doesn't qualify one as being paranoid. They're simply tools.
