Russia warned the US side that any action aimed at isolating Russia would backfire. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned against "hasty and reckless steps" that could harm Russian-American relations, "Sanctions...would inevitably hit the United States like a boomerang,"

Western allies of the US side were reluctant to agree to any significant sanctions so the US side has in a sense isolated itself. The sanctions that the US side eventually negotiated did not amount to a great deal and the efforts were mocked by those that were targeted on the Russian side. Presidential Aide Mr Vladislav Surkov said this about Obamas weak efforts - "I see the decision by the administration in Washington as an acknowledgment of my service to Russia," he said. "I don't have accounts abroad. The only things that interest me in the US are Tupac Shakur, Allen Ginsberg, and Jackson Pollock. "I don't need a visa to access their work. I lose nothing."

After isolating themselves on the issue of direct military action in Syria the US side have again managed to back themselves into a corner. This is nothing new. The US side was recently isolated on the Palestine vote at the UN for statehood when no nation voted with the US and Israel. Another instance of the US isolating themselves was the heavy sanctions on Iran that encouraged nations to look to alternatives to the USD for international trade including direct currency swap and barter. The sanctions on Iran actually weakened the position of the USD and now these flimsy sanction directed at Russia threaten to do the same thing. In response to the hostility from the US side now the Russians are speaking about creating a petroruble system to compete with the US sides petrodollar that gives them so much advantage over the rest of the world by anchoring the Reserve Currency for them.

The comments coming from the Russian side seem to indicate that they are serious about ditching the USD as Reserve Currency. The Russians moving to a petroruble system is a strong and courageous move by Russian leadership in government and business.

With each passing day the USD looks to be in more and more danger. The petrodollar system that gives the US side so much advantage over the world seems to be on its last legs.

Valentina Matviyenko, the speaker of Russia's upper house of parliament, said this when Obama threatened to isolate Russia -. “ Some ‘hot headed' decision-makers have already forgotten that the global economic crisis of 2008 - which is still taking its toll on the world - started with a collapse of certain credit institutions in the US, Great Britain and other countries. This is why we believe that any hostile financial actions are a double-edged sword and even the slightest error will send the boomerang back to the aborigines,”. I am from Australia and have thrown boomerangs. They can be quite dangerous. In my opinion the Russians are already proving to be correct that US actions against them will boomerang and hurt the US side.

In your opinion how long will the USD survive without the support of the petrodollar system? Do Russian moves toward a petroruble indicate the death knell for the USD as Reserve Currency?

Minister of Economy, Alexei Ulyukae told Russia 24 news channel that the Russian energy companies must should ditch the dollar. “ They must be braver in signing contracts in rubles and the currencies of partner-countries, ”
