US President Barack Obama has urged his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to use his influence to make separatists in eastern Ukraine stand down.

In my opinion this is much better diplomacy from the US side. I do not think it will stop Russia from taking Ukraine but it is still clever diplomacy to put the ball back in the Russian court.

I do not believe it is sensible for the US side to try to intimidate nations. Yesterday USA was trying to intimidate Russia. This will never work.

USA must avoid zero sum politics and never bluff.

Anyway, I say jolly good show.

Once again, we are seeing a country that is an artificial construct which attempts to combine groups of people who really have no interest in being combined, going on the rocks.

It didn't work in Yugoslavia, it isn't working in Iraq, and it isn't going to work in the Ukraine.

The solution here is free elections and self determination.

Yes and I am sure that Putin will be taking everything to heart that Obama has to say!

He really doesn't/t consider him to be much of a leader so? He will continue to do what he wants to

For sure, Putin shakes in his boots every time Obama speaks.

OK, reads from his teleprompter.
