"This goes beyond X's and O's and football. The Jets have a way of maintaining a high profile and this is another way again that they're doing that," Namath told Yahoo! Sports.

The timing of the move is puzzling. Last week, the Jets agreed to terms with former Detroit Lions quarterback Drew Stanton as their backup to Mark Sanchez, who earlier this month signed a five-year contract extension with the team (http://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AtVv8F8oKKx2kntnxry2aUlYYsp_;_ylu=X3oDMTFobDF 0N3FnBG1pdANCbG9nIEJvZHkEcG9zAzQEc2VjA01lZGlhQmxvZ 0JvZHlUZW1wQXNzZW1ibHk-;_ylg=X3oDMTNicnI0ZnFkBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRw c3RhaWQDZjdjODhhNzUtY2NjOS0zODhhLTk4OTktZDU5ZTYxNG RjZjU0BHBzdGNhdANuZmx8c2h1dGRvd25jb3JuZXIEcHQDc3Rv cnlwYWdlBHRlc3QD;_ylv=0/SIG=13cgbtog0/EXP=1333663497/**http%3A//www.metro.us/newyork/sports/article/1120697--no-peyton-in-nyc-jets-extend-sanchez). By inking Sanchez to the $58.25 million deal, the Jets essentially handed the keys of the franchise to the quarterback whom they traded up to take with the fifth pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

Namath, like former Jets players Kris Jenkins, Ray Lucas and Damien Woody, took to social media Wednesday to air his views on the trade. His Twitter (https://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AqWJ5AzuVDAXoDSHn06VQFBYYsp_;_ylu=X3oDMTFoNDI wNWM2BG1pdANCbG9nIEJvZHkEcG9zAzUEc2VjA01lZGlhQmxvZ 0JvZHlUZW1wQXNzZW1ibHk-;_ylg=X3oDMTNicnI0ZnFkBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRw c3RhaWQDZjdjODhhNzUtY2NjOS0zODhhLTk4OTktZDU5ZTYxNG RjZjU0BHBzdGNhdANuZmx8c2h1dGRvd25jb3JuZXIEcHQDc3Rv cnlwYWdlBHRlc3QD;_ylv=0/SIG=11qtasfs6/EXP=1333663497/**https%3A//twitter.com/%23!/realjoenamath)and Facebook accounts (https://us.lrd.yahoo.com/_ylt=AraMSL0MmVUhEWijRx75jNJYYsp_;_ylu=X3oDMTFoYmI 3NnVsBG1pdANCbG9nIEJvZHkEcG9zAzYEc2VjA01lZGlhQmxvZ 0JvZHlUZW1wQXNzZW1ibHk-;_ylg=X3oDMTNicnI0ZnFkBGludGwDdXMEbGFuZwNlbi11cwRw c3RhaWQDZjdjODhhNzUtY2NjOS0zODhhLTk4OTktZDU5ZTYxNG RjZjU0BHBzdGNhdANuZmx8c2h1dGRvd25jb3JuZXIEcHQDc3Rv cnlwYWdlBHRlc3QD;_ylv=0/SIG=11mrquq5u/EXP=1333663497/**https%3A//www.facebook.com/JoeNamath)lit up with fans expressing confusion (and perhaps worse) over the trade. Namath can see a similar scenario playing out in a Jets locker room already fractured by dissension and ego, adding Tebow to the mix won't turn sinners into saints — at least not overnight. There's sure to be confusion there too.

"These guys are expected to be professional, but it doesn't work that way all the time. There's a split there with the players and they're a bit confused — I am too," Namath said.

"They're supposed to handle it. But at this stage I'm hoping it will work out positively for the teams, the fans. I know all the fans want to do is win and I'm not sure that is always the bottom-line with how the Jets operate.".....snip~

Dang, that last quote is a harsh one. It is true that Tebow will sell a lot of jerseys and put fans in the stands, and maybe the owner is putting $$$ ahead of wins.

Wonder what they are paying Stanton? 5yr deal as the back up.

Stanton is furious and demanding a trade. He turned down more money from other places to sign with the Jets because he thought he was guaranteed the #2 spot. Plus they have McElroy at QB too. One of the idiots that runs them said they were thinking about going into the season with 4 QBs.

There is so much money involved I'd like to think I'd have the decency to not give a fuck where I play for tens of millions of dollars.

Please.....let them go into the season with 4 QB's. They will be salary-capped and then screwed when they don't have a punter or a kicker. or some of those specialty guys.

Exactly take the money and STFU.....thing that kills me is on how so many of them end up broke and pawning off their Superbowl Rings and Memorabilia.

It's obscene to be offered tens of millions to play a little kid's game and then act like you're owed something more.

Looks like they gave into Stanton and traded him to the Colts, where he'll have no chance of starting behind either Andrew Luck or RGIII. I doubt that's what he wanted, maybe that was their way of screwing him to make sure he'll never start.

He should have told them trade me to Cleveland, Cinci, anything would have been better than there. Maybe he is looking for that free ride for a year.

Yeah, he'll make some good money holding a clipboard.

How is Joe Namath even relevant anymore?
