600 US soldiers (http://news.yahoo.com/us-troops-head-exercises-eastern-europe-171638690--politics.html), to include a reinforced company from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team are heading to Poland to conduct training exercises in Poland and in the Baltics.

Pentagon press secretary Rear Adm. John Kirby said Tuesday that the exercises will last about a month, and initially involve about 600 troops.

An Army company of about 150 soldiers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team based in Vicenza, Italy, will start the exercises Wednesday in Poland. Additional Army companies will head to Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and are expected to arrive by Monday for similar land-based exercises in those countries.

Under the current plan, U.S. troops would rotate in and out of the four countries for additional exercises on a recurring basis.

"We're looking at trying to keep this rotational presence persistent throughout the rest of this year," Kirby told reporters, adding that over time the exercises could expand to other countries.

A response to increased tension with Moscow and Polish worries of a Russian invasion I would assume.

I would like to visit several parts of the region once known as Galicia. My Polish ancestors actually came from a part of Galicia which is now part of Ukraine, one of the results of Europe's shifting borders.

Yes, it is a direct response.

The missile defense system we put in isn't enough? Oh, wait a minute. The nitwit in the White House cancelled that, didn't he? I realize he promised the Russians he'd be more flexible but Viagra might gix that problem for him.

Then perhaps the Russians send their soldiers for 'exercises' in Cuba? Off we go again!
