I wonder if he thinks people who would eat at Cracker Barrel or Panera's only eat at those establishments?

The Walmartization of Western culture is pretty evident, we generally only eat pre-frozen and canned garbage from chain restaurants, shop at Chinese manufactured crap at Walmart, watch the same shit sitcoms on TV every day, drive fucking cars that all look the same so much that half the fucking lemmings can't find their cars in the sea of parking lots at Walmart because they all look the same...

No wonder people from England and France laugh at us, we're devoid of culture - but hey, it goes along with our collective absence of intelligence and insight.

Just because you live that way doesn't mean the rest of us do. What is it that you buy at Walmart? Aren't you smart enough to make a mental note about where you parked? Go take a cooking course. That will help you with eating canned garbage. I can just see you at the campsite eating Bernie weenies from Walmart.

The downfall of America will be spending more money than it can take in while closing opportunities for private sector jobs, not our eating habits. Our eating habits are a direct result of the economy.

Try shopping at Whole Foods for basics and see how far that paycheck goes.

Whole Foods. I go into their stores alot as part of my job. Around here, we call it Whole Paycheck.

Yesterday I went for lunch to Mojo Bicycle Cafe on Divisidero in San Francisco. It's half bike sales/repair and half resaurant. They have a micro-park out front, which is like a 20 by 10 foot mini park along the street/sidewalk with a few plants and trees in planter boxes, and some outdoor seating. I had a mozzarella, basil and sundried tomato sandwich, like a panini type of thing. That came with a mixed green salad for $8. They only have 3 beers on tap, none of which are super exciting, but I got there for happy hour ($3 pints). Had 4 pints of Trumer Pils. Took half of my panini to go.

Last night, passing thru Pacifica, I stopped at Taco Bell, only because that's the most beautiful Taco Bell in the universe. It's right on a cresent shaped beach, about 40 yards from the breakers. No drive thru. Big windows facing the ocean and a deck out back with umbrellas. I ordered a large drink, filled it with iced tea and got a little caffeine for the final leg of my journey down Hwy 1 to Santa Cruz.

Asheville NC is a bastion of liberal socialist. Stores like Earth Faire, Green Earth and the like abound in that small town (80,000 approx). There is one Cracker Barrel, no Panara and the highest concentration of government workers outside of Washington DC in the nation.

Actually, there are two Cracker Barrels. Asheville has changed over the past few years. It used to be pretty much a dead city that no one went to and it changed into a thriving area. Taxes are pretty high though.

There is one Cracker Barrel on Patton Ave and I-40 and I forgot about the one hidden behind the Outback on Tunnel Road

I like Asheville, I live an hour's drive from Asheville. Whenever I go, which is about 3 times a month, I eat at either Curate's, Bouchons, Chestnuts or Doc Chey's. Surprisingly Doc Chey's is actually a chain (a very small one, only two facilities but a chain none the less). I like the fact that Asheville's unofficial motto is "If you are too weird for Asheville you are too weird" and they mean it. I have often equated Asheville, especially the down town area with Greenwich Village in NYC. I also find the residents of Asheville to be some of the rudest, most self centered people in the world. They all have this sense of entitlement and air of superiority. Its a common liberal socialist trait.

Here's one place I'll eat at every time I'm in Buffalo, NY (and I used to be there quite often when I lived up near there), although they've gotten very commercial lately. Like Quaker Steak, I used to go to the original location in Sharon, PA. When they franchised out all over the place I kinda stopped going.

We had wings here on the first day of our honeymoon.

I just don't bother anymore. Once in a while we'll eat at Denny's for breakfast but generally only if we're traveling. There's a breakfast joint 2 miles from the campground, little shithole of a place. Massively fantastic home-made breakfasts. REAL fucking sausage, not that overcooked cup coasters they sell at the chain shops. I can get breakfast for the whole family for under $15 there also, including the tip.

Not to say there are no conservatives in Asheville, after all WWNC does carry both Glen Beck and Rush Limbaugh but the vast majority of the population is uber liberal progressives. Most of the business owners are conservatives, any business owner (other than an art gallery or other artsy fartsy establishment) who is liberal won't last long in business. Surprisingly, most of the personnel at the VA medical center I have come into contact with are conservative in nature.

Next time you are in Asheville let me know and I will let you buy me breakfast at Early Girls.

Why would you not tip her? Did she not get you to your proper destination? Was she incompetent in her performance of her duties as a bus driver? If a cab driver picked me up and told me for an entire trip how wonderful Hillary was I might make a note of his name for future reference but I would never censor his speech by not paying him for his services.

I once had one tell me that the space shots were causing the potato crops to fail. His reasoning was that the space ships were increasing the magnetic pull on the earth and that was pulling the potatoes out of the ground andcausing them to not ripen. However, just because someone is a nitwit doesn't mean they should not be paid for their services.

Not all cracker barrels are the same. I ate at the one near Pine Mountain Georgia. Breakfast was to die for good.

Ya'll are eating at the wrong Cracker Barrels. I looooove our Cracker Barrel, which is only about 1.5 miles from my house, so I order out frequently. I suppose tastes vary.

We try to avoid fast food, but we eat on the run 2 days a week and every so often I cave to the kids begging for a corndog from Arctic Circle or chicken nuggets from BK. Fast food really is nasty, but every time I am pregnant I crave Big Mac once a week and that craving does not go away until you eat, hate yourself and then crave it all over again the next week. Sometimes I just need a crunch wrap. And at the end of the pregnancy I tell myself I will never do it again, but I have slept on my cravings night after night and they just don't go away.

Best restaurant-my sister's house. Next best restaurant-my house. I can cook pretty much anything they serve anywhere except I am the one who touched it. Not gonna lie though, every now and again we find my hair in the food. Oops. At least I know I am clean and bathe regular. Going out to eat is so disappointing unless it's chinese because I haven't figured out how to make chinese taste like good chinese. I always feel like I wasted my money except for the fact that I didn't cook, I didn't have to serve it, and I didn't have to do the dishes.

I also bake with whole grains when I cook. Most restaurant use enriched everything and I hate it. Lasagna with whole grain noodles-delish.

I'm a great cook, I regularly for the last (over) 10 years make my family's Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter dinners. I'm the main cook in the household.

As for the campsite, here's one of the things we make - red beans and sausage. Going to make shrimp gumbo this weekend, same way.

I don't remember ever eating anything cooked over a fire in a dutch oven. The things I have missed out on..... :(

Mom and dad had a Dutch oven so I have eaten food from it. They also had a concrete patio with bar-be-que and maybe Dad used it there. Dad may have also taken it with the family on camping trips.

Mom loved Richardson's grove and that persuaded them to buy 20 acres of Redwoods.

Oh, I also love that park.

http://www.parks.ca.gov/?page_id=422

Established in 1922 and named after Friend W. Richardson, the 25th governor of California, the park is bisected by Hwy. 101 and the south fork of the Eel River. Camping, hiking, swimming, and just relaxing are popular activities throughout much of the year. Fishing for salmon and steelhead is popular during the winter.

Richardson Grove State Park is where you first encounter significant old growth redwood forest when coming north. The 9th tallest coast redwood, a fallen tree ring study conducted in 1933, and a walk-through tree are immediately available.

Richardson Grove State Park is located within "Bear Country".
State Park regulations require visitors to store food and scented items properly at all times.

Hannity used to talk all the time about Ruth Chris restaurants.

I have to look them up. When I last did, none were near me. Ruth Chris is in San Francisco and Walnut Creek, CA. Frankly, we have awesome steak houses very close. No need to waste that much driving and fuel use to eat meat.

There is a TV program on PBS called "Check Please" that is awesome in restaurant reviews. 3 locals eat at all 3 places and the host talks them through what we all need to know. It is also posted on the internet. Thus if you want to visit the SF Bay area, check out that site.

I have eaten at both Ruth Chris and Morton's. High priced but not better. Truthfully, the best steaks I have eaten were grilled on my back porch by my brother in law. He used to own a barbeque restaurant in Jacksonville and is quite good at grilling and smoking meats. He gets the best cuts of tenderloin and only puts garlic salt and Worcestershire sauce on them and then grills them medium rare. A baked potato with sour cream and butter (not margarine) and a chopped lettuce and tomato and cucumber salad and you are set for the night.

I know I know Captain Obvious, that taste like shit and makes you put cardboard in your bed.

Been there, done that. All you need are a few "poor man's recipes." Cheap ingredients, but healthy. Not gonna lie though, I don't miss eating beans everyday. Pre-made is NOT cheaper. It seems cheaper, but if you bought the individual ingredients and made from scratch it would be WAY cheaper. I would cook 2-3 times a week and that is all we needed for every meal. I still do that. Well, Ramen and mac n cheese will always be dirt cheap. But then again, I don't know where you live. One of the three things that my mother could make: tuna noodle casserole. I actually still have her handwritten recipe. I threw the rest out. Its hard to say what would be my favorite seafood restaurant because different restaurants do different things well. For example for steamed crabs my favorite is Gunnings in Baltimore, MD. Seafood Gumbo Katz and Betzoff (KB's) in New Orleans. They were a drug store lunch counter that only served gumbo during Lent but it was wonderful. I understand they are now out of business), for oysters, Harry's Oyster Bar in St Augustine FL. Fried shrimp and oysters, Osteen's also in St Augustine. Grilled trout, just about any restaurant that serves in in Asheville NC., Lox and Bagles, Noshville Deli in Nashville, TN. I am sure there are others as well.

My son is 6'8" tall. I, on the other hand, am 5'8" tall. He has been taller than me since he was 11. I remember once when he was about 12 or 13 someone told him "Good grief Daniel, you've grown another foot". He looked down at his feet and said "Nope, still just the two of them"

The "I was going to say" was because I was going to say something about him weighing that much but being that tall so 315 lbs does not automatically mean overweight. However before I had the chance you had posted the same thing.

You say that as though it were a bad thing.

I drive an F250, it sticks out. Trust me.

That picture reminds me of Bigos, Polish Hunter's stew - traditionally the pot was kept going for days, but the basic ingredients are kielbasa, cabbage and/or sauerkraut, onions, potatoes, mushrooms and whatever meat the hunter brought home. They would just keep adding fresh ingredients. These days it's not kept going indefinitely and instead of venison or whatever the hunter caught, the meat is usually pork, but you can also use beef. Really tasty.

I found rice in my Denny's waffle once. Never again.
Are you sure it was rice?

I loved the ethnic stews in Poland and the Baltic States.

This one is common in Poland as well as in many of the Baltic states.
