"He's a different voice in the arena that we don't traditionally hear," says Lorraine Miller, acting head of the NAACP, who expects to invite Paul to speak at the organization's July national conference in Las Vegas.
"He's an engaging guy — that's why we want to talk to him," Miller says. Miller is not the only black leader who has been intrigued by Paul, whose father, former Texas Rep. Ron Paul, had three unsuccessful presidential runs and amassed a fervent Libertarian following.
Miller's predecessor, Benjamin Jealous, has previously hailed Paul's position on reforming drug and sentencing laws, which disproportionately affect African-American individuals and families... Paul is not establishment GOP. That is why the black organizations are giving him a second look. That and they know, if they won't say, that the Democrats have failed them.

Good to see. I hope Paul accepts the invitation to speak at the July conference.

So what racial goodies is Paul prepared to offer them?

Likely nothing. Just good economics that can help people without considering color.

Likely nothing is what he'll get out of speaking to a racialist outfit like the NAACP.

I thought your question is what Paul was going to give them. Not what they were going to give Paul.

I don't think Paul expects anything from them. When they are ready to leave their plantation (the dem party) they will. Paul just wants to tell them what they have to look forward to if they make the move.

Well, if Rand presents himself as someone who wants to talk to the NAACP and listen to them, it gives them a seat at the political table and gives him a voting block.

I think his idea of an economic freedom zone for Detroit sold to a lot of people.

Sure he does. He expects at the very least a fair hearing. Anyway, yeah, that was my question. I'm sure "good economics" will be a smash hit.

Right, that is what woke them up.

It will eventually happen out of necessity. Don't expect ~90 years of government handouts to lose their appeal overnight.

His main appeal to the "black community" is his support for getting rid of mandatory minimum sentencing laws for non-violent crimes and restoring the voting rights and second amendment rights of people who have served their sentences. Personally, I think these are good policies on their own merits and are consistent with his libertarian-leaning beliefs, so it's not so simplistic as offering them "racial goodies".

Regardless of what you might think of Paul, he is doing the best positioning for a 2016 run of all the potential candidates, IMO. Including Hillary.

The benefit of being "libertarian-leaning" is that Rand Paul, in borrowing from libertarian ideas, has a whole treasure trove of "goodies" to offer everyone, not just black people. He gets to strategically pick from this stockpile of liberty all the way up until election day.
