I've done some IFF training with A-10's in New Mexico, they're very cool, there were also F-117's, if we were able to track them for a certain amount of time they'd always tip their wings and do a flyby afterward.

I've gone through an instance of too close for comfort air support in Afghanistan, F-16's trying to thread the needle with directions from an FAC that sounded more like a stuttering Elmore Fudd, I remember my 1st Sgt elbowing me, pointing at the map, fuck'n Elmore Fudd didn't know what the fuck he was doing.

I would've been better off had I got hit in the head with a sledgehammer.

We had the A-10s' shell casings from their 30mm guns falling all around us! It was pretty exciting. Not so exciting for the Iraqis.

You'd mentioned Ft. Drum before, were you in the 10th Mountain during Desert Storm?

We had around 200 in the 81st TAC at Bentwaters, around 40 % were tdy in Germany at any given moment along with some other fol's. That combined with the HH 53's and C-130's at the sister base Woodbridge made for a pretty good experience. :)

Here is what we used to do. We would go TDY to Germany every week or two and stay for a couple weeks at the fol's. :) They actually had a customs office on base and we had to go through it when we came back. Our TDY box was pretty big and they didn't have authority to check it for anything so we would put everything from ski's, clocks, alcohol, and anything else that we could pack in there. It went straight to our shop and we could get it out then. I always brought back some trinket or something through customs, just because, LOL, LOL I always figured it was stupid to have a British customs agent on a base we actually controlled.

Oh yeah, I was at bentwaters when that Alien shit went down in 79 and again in 80. That stuff was for real and the Base commander who did the TV program about it was a straight up guy. Nobody lied about any of that stuff, if anybody has heard about it. I'll personally vouch for it all being true....

Ever hear about the MIG-29 that was confiscated/captured...whatever, that was being guarded by none other than some 82nd infantry joes who'd decided that testing out the ejection seat would be a great idea?

I didn't hear that one. My regiment was on the front lines, unlike the rest of the Division. They would probably know.

One of the guys in my Ranger class was the dummy who'd ejected, his squad leader in Iraq was one of the RI's in the desert phase, we didn't hear the end of it because that same dummy lost his rubber duck - at White Sands of all places...there's no words to describe how much we'd low crawled looking for that rubber duck while his ex-squad leader turned RI yelled at the top of his lungs that he was gonna wish he had died ejecting from that MIG if we didn't find it...an entire day and half and a night later we found it, the dummy got to live but had to recycle the desert phase.

If it were up to me I would've voted him off the island, I'm pretty sure he would've been peered out had he stayed in that class. I don't know why, but I thought for sure he'd come from the 325th, it was awhile ago though and there was about twenty guys in the beginning from Bragg and a few from the 173rd, I could've mixed it up somehow.

Over by Indiantown Gap? My wife had OC'd an all female Sandhurst competition team (A silly academy G.I. Joe competition between various country's military academies, it's always rigged so that we [US teams] lose anyways), she took them to Fort Indiantown Gap for extra training, while they were there A-10's were live firing on one of the ranges there, she was talking about it for weeks.

Yep I had put some of that stuff-up with the UFO Hunter's as they had a whole special on Bentwaters. The Colonel is telling the truth. That Security Detail Sgt., not only drew the what he was looking at but he touched it as well. Also afterwards there was a higher concentrated radiation reading. Didn't that incident last for a couple of weeks before it culminated to this Ramone?

They don't tell 'em they're gonna live in the motorpool for their entire time in the Army or take three weeks to recover from a two week field problem either.

Indeed, clean your weapon turn in your radio enjoy your comp time.

If I wasn't deployed or in the field I was enjoying a three or four day work week with no end of day formations the first three years, it wasn't until I went to 1st AD after spending a year in Bosnia with 'em that I found out about that misery, I went Green to Gold just to get away from the motorpool.

Yeah, it was hush, hush for awhile. I never really heard anything about it until I saw it on TV. Mum was the word at the time, nobody said shit........Now that it is almost 30 years later, hell I guess some of it is still classified but most has come out. Same as some of the experimental stuff done in XX. Just because you know don't mean you can say.......Nomesayn?
