From Moosechelle Obama dictating what foods our school children should be eating to U.S. education secretary Arne Duncan
advocating for the public schools to take over as de facto parents, we seem to be at a turning point as to whether we continue
to allow our government to control all phases of our lives (now including the lives of our school children) or do we bring back
some common sense by pushing for school choice, charter schools and home schooling to offset this statist progressivism?

Lawmakers and educators have become strong proponents of the full-service "community school" model. These people believe
that schools should be open throughout the year, pretty much around the clock, and offer everything under the sun, including
free meals, child care, health care, counseling services, family planning services--you name it.

U.S. secretary Arne Duncan:

"If children are hungry, they should be fed. It's hard to learn if your stomach is growling. We need to take that on. If students
can't see the blackboard, need eyeglasses, we need to do that. If students need a social worker or counselor to work through
the challenges they're facing at home or in the community, we need to do that. My vision is that schools need to be community
centers. Schools need to be open 12, 13, 14 hours a day six, seven days a week, 12 months out of the year, with a whole host
of activities, particularly in disadvantaged communities."

Not only does this concept encourage the continued dissolution of the family, but it also leaves school personnel in the position of
essentially raising the children themselves. That should sound more than a few alarm bells in the minds of anyone who believes in
strong parenting, small communities, and the power of the individual.

How can public schools, which can barely maintain any order or discipline as it is, be expected to provide for the physical, emotional,
and medical needs of millions of children?

ps: Do you want progressive folks like the former community organizer Obama and his ilk to be setting up
publically run school community centers where progressives find themselves in charge of your kids life?
