If any of you self-proclaimed patriotic flag wavers know what day today is?

70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, aka "D-Day".

I've needed a drink all week. Too bad I ended up on the schedule tomorrow morning last minute.

Fuck it, I'm not letting that stop me.

Just have a drink or three, just don't get shitfaced.

I have a couple beers just about every night, maybe a few more on weekends though. I just don't get hammered. Actually, don't remember last time I got drunk. Maybe SBXL. Sucks getting older.

It is neat to listen to the old speeches that Reagan gave for D-Day. He never mentioned himself once.

How odd.

Tonight a bunch of us were going to drive up to Milwaukee and make a night of it. The annoying part is my boss asked me if I wanted Saturday morning off and I told her yes. Now I work two shifts, morning and evening till 1am. I can't do all of that hungover :undecided:.

Maybe if you had a drink every now and then it might soften that stick up your ass and open your senses a little.

I'd start off with kerosene if I were you.

Someone called off Saturday morning it looks like.

Scheduling shifts sucks, be careful not to get into that trap that you're the guy who fills in whenever someone calls off because you'll never get to drink on Friday nights.

I have a glass if wine with dinner from time to time, but I do not drink to relax or get wasted. That is stupid.

Oh believe me, I know. My being on the schedule after all tomorrow morning is likely because I asked off a few days next week to help my dad replace the roof. Can't stand to see me have more than couple days off I guess.

The remains are still there today, though it’s about 10 years since I was in that part of France.

I think its difficult to appreciate the scale of damage that occurred in Europe. Americans had the colonial war and the civil war, bodies were collected, buried and everything was swept clean, so to speak. Europe and the UK is like walking over a graveyard. Even today, in any development in the cities, a few feet down and you’re coming across bones and still live bombs.

I still remember playing as a kid in bombed out ruins in the early 60’s and rummaging through downed German bombers that got lost in the fog and smoke after raids over Manchester and had flown into the hills around it. Some UK city’s had to be levelled and completely re-built. It’s why parts of Europe look so modern today, there was nothing left of it after the war. Europe is one big battlefield site and fighting took place over nearly all of it. It makes for good history, but it’s a gruesome place if you look a little deeper.

My late father was part of D-Day. Not first wave TG. He recalled terrible stories of their landing in the second wave. He didn't speak too often about that time. We could see it was still very real and painful. He did 5 1/2 years in the Army Air Corps. Fought in the Ardennes too. He was always my hero. What those brave men did to keep us free. God Bless America.

Other than it being D-Day I celebrate every day by bashing failed anti American liberal policies. Must be the pro American in me that makes me do it.

When Eisenhower was grinding his way across Germany in World War II, on his way to Berlin and victory, as the Supreme Commander of Allied Forces in Europe, Reagan was in Hollywood, making movies about it.

Reagan was an LT in the Army during WWII. He had bad eyes so was never sent overseas. He did get assigned to an Army unit that worked directly with Hollywood in 1944.

My Mom raised me as a bottle baby.
By age 14 I was already a Champion Juicer
I thought denial was a river in Egypt.
I couldn't quit the sauce until I had the first of three heart attacks at age 58. Best thing I ever did!

But looking back, it is not surprising as both my parents were alkies, and the family tree fell over it was so drunk. Scottish-Irish, with Smirnoff Russian heritage, no wonder!
