No video, it's too old.

Here's a great undergroundish band, Soulfly. Spinoff from Sepultura sort of.
I have the album this tune is on, 3 CD set. One of the best CD's I own. Great stuff but I'm not sure anyone is aware of it.
Tribal metal, there's a soccer tune on it called (sp?) Uraumbaumba, I can't find a good video of it, it's fantastic.

I used to play this for U-10 soccer team I coached.
It's in Portugese but they lyrics are pretty solid, no scary stuff.

The lyrics are kinda cool, here's the translation:
Umbabarauma goal man
Umbabarauma goal man
Play ball play ball ball player
Play ball I want to play ball ball player
Jump, jump, fall, get up, go up and get down
Run, kick, find a hole, thrill and give thanks
See how the whole city empties out
On this beautiful afternoon to watch you play
Play ball ball player
Play ball corocondo
Slum Street Soccer Slum Street Soccer
Soccer Soccer Soccer Soccer...
*This is the story of Umbabarauma

A point man whose mind is made up

Not nearly as menacing as I thought. Those are good lyrics, and entirely appropriate for a U10 soccer team if any parents ask.

Sticking with the overseas theme, here's an oldie but goodie.
Used to play in a warehouse band in high school, we knew like 3 tunes. This one and a couple others. Udo Dirkschneider is my moniker on that other message forum.

Sounds like you have it, I think MMC knows it also but lets see if anyone else can come up with it.
Sort of a fun fact that you would never expect. I've known the JP version since I was a pre-teen and I was pretty surprised when I found out who originally performed it.

Dee Snyder is a pretty talented guy, I liked their stuff a lot - especially the older stuff before they went commercial.
I think I told this story before, I was dating my wife and I took her to a Twisted Sister concert - might have been the Stay Hungry tour. Anyway, she told me that I now have to take her to a concert of her choosing and dragged me to see Air Supply.
Trust me, All Out of Love at 120 decibels is enough to want to gouge your eardrum out with a blunt object.

Been a vocalist most of my life GRC and while I can do the gruff death metal thing if I want, I'm totally more into the Geoff Tate, King Diamong, Bruce Dickenson, Phil Anselmo kind of thing.
I guess I'm a show off as few can nail that kind of thing...cept me and the originals. :wink20:
Besides, if you're going to spend 4 hours on a stage you may as well have fun blowing people's minds while you do it.
Gets you a better grade of rock slut at the end of the night too. :boobs:

None of these are industrial ... these are either fusion or techno or goth/metal ... it's kind of sad how you and oblivious lump things together into industrial ... you might as well call Marilyn Manson industrial ... when he's a (neo) hair band assuming goth-droid visuals ...
All of todays Metal can be lumped into a new genre called *Peculiar Culture* ... it's music variability is *Faux Christian Metal* ...

I recently discovered this Viking metal band and its name clearly originated from Black Sabbath's 1990 album which featured Nordic mythology and Tyr is the son of Odin.

Rather than start with my standard bands, I'd rather start with my latest obsessions, and that means KMFDM, Killing Joke, :wumpscut:, My Dying Bride, and others.
KMFDM might sound like a weird musical obsession for someone like me: they are THE most left-wing band I've ever listened to, with the possible exception of The Clash [whom I still love, regardless] and Rage Against the Machine [which I HATE more because their music blows than because Tom Morello is an utter tool], and my ideology is 180 degrees opposite to theirs. Nevertheless, there's something about their version of Industrial Metal/Industrial Rock [they've done both, and even verged on Techno] that is SO hypnotic and compelling! It's impossible NOT to start moving to their powerful music, dubbed by their leader Sascha Konietzko 'The Ultra Heavy Beat', and with good reason. One of their main secrets is really good song-writing, which, as time goes on, I find is the most important determinant for good music that lasts.
Here's what I'm talking about right here:

Their slower pieces are more emotionally complex, but for sheer sinister, hellish darkness their faster dance-oriented songs are wonderful in my opinion.
You said you never got into Killing Joke: you've got to give them another chance! They were the first industrial band I ever got into, as I had spent a long time avoiding this genre as artificial and overproduced until I heard what it was really capable of. Then a friend of mine pressed a bunch of Killing Joke albums on me and, at first reluctantly, listened, and before long I really fell under their spell.
I don't even like the term 'Industrial Metal' being applied to their work [by the way, they have experimented with every imaginable genre, and have great albums in classic 80s British Goth Rock as well as synthpop from that decade]. I invented a new term just for them: 'Tribal Metal'--their best albums have the hypnotic intensity of some wild tribal music, and exudes the same kind of atmosphere. Jaz Coleman--who is flat-out crazy as a bed-bug and whose statements on ANYthing are not to be taken seriously--experimented with and studied middle eastern musical concepts, and it comes out in many songs, and gives them a strange, even supernatural quality. I've never seen them live, but I know people who have, and they said that they have maybe THE best live show they've ever seen.
Classic examples [I'm pretty sure Dave Grohl is the session drummer on Asteroid]:

So I listened to the four tracks you embedded for Killing Joke and just can't get past the vocals. They remind me too much of the dude from Slayer, which doesn't fit Industrial at all IMO. I did enjoy Mathematics of Chaos a great bit, however, that one seems to me to be hardly even Industrial, but more Progressive and synthy. That could explain why I enjoyed it so much, I tend to love Progressive Metal quite a bit. Walking with Gods was good for the first bit, but it dragged on and on. I am interested in several albums of theirs after looking at their wikipedia page, specifically Extremities..., Democracy, and probably Night Time, depending upon how they go. I have musical ADHD so it's kind of hard for me to stay with one thing.

Those guys freak me out! It toook me a long time to warm up to Drone Doom, but now I listen to them, The Melvins in their drone mode, Boris, and Earth quite regularly.

They're like Sunn O)))'s "faster" stuff (It Took The Night To Believe and other such tracks) meets black metal, but with some clean vocals thrown in. The atmosphere is pure gold.:

I love Funeral Doom, but have never come across "Thergothon" before, so I'll have to check out more of their stuff. For the record I prefer longer tracks to shorter tracks most of the time, because once you get into the groove you just don't want to stop. But I also can get into bands like The Locust and The Berzerker where you can hardly find a song over a minute or two long.
But now when I want to listen to something Doomy, my go-to is always super hellish stuff like Gnaw Their Tongues, where I can get some black metal and some industrial with crazy fucked-up samples as well. It just pushes things to that next level.
If you can go back a few pages to where I posted All The Dread Magnificence of Perversity. That track is the one that got me started on them, it's perfect.

In the late 80s and early 90s I went through several years of disconnect from rock and metal. I entirely missed Grunge until I rediscovered it after the mid 90s, and immediately fell in love with Alice In Chains, Mudhoney and Soundgarden.
But what really brought me back were two bands, and they remain at the heart of my metal listening to this day.
The first:
Type O Negative
Led by a True Metal God, the late great Peter Steele was an amazing song-writer, performer and presence. His deep baritone voice was unique in metal, which generally gravitated towards high-pitched Bruce Dickinson screams or guttural vocals. His statement that the two biggest influences in his music were The Beatles and Black Sabbath pretty much guaranteed that some really different music was going to come form them, especially when you add his previous band's--'Carnivore'-- background in Crossover Thrash in the mid 80s. The body of work they left had balls, atmosphere, heaviness, emotion, great wit and cleverness and a literate edge. I love these guys! Their music really speaks to me. Steele's very untimely death was a very sad loss for metal.

It's progression, man. If the people now were only as good as their pioneers they would never amount to anything. But I can't wait and I hope I am listening to it until I'm dead and buried.

But, have you listened to some of the other stuff I've been posting? There's a whole new wave of ambient metal popping up that's just as brutal but not nearly as abrasive and invasive on the ears. I highly recommend you go back a few pages to where I posted Abruptum's Gehennae Perpetuae Cruciatus if you haven't yet. The distorted and endlessly layered violins whirling into oblivion just outside the foreground creates such perfect atmosphere when coupled with the thunderous percussion. There's not much going on, but that's kind of the point. It's true anti-music, there's no catchy rhythm to be found or get lodged in your head. Just disturbing. I know you once thanked a Sunn O))) post of mine, if you did that because of the music and not the dumb joke I made then this type of music is for you. It's disturbing minimalist noise and somehow I can't get enough of it.
Yeah but idk technical skill is only half of it.
Can you expand on this? What's the other half? Or 50%, if it's not just one part you consider to be "the other half"?

They basically took over where Rush left off. They are in the front rank of the masters of prog metal. Even their vocalist LaBrie sounds a LOT like Geddy Lee!
They had the best of EVERYTHING: best drummer ever, maybe--Mike Portnoy
best bassist, perhaps--John Myung
one of the best guitarists--John Petrucci
Just a formidably well-equipped and fully-loaded band all round! They could do just about ANYTHING they wanted to do. Sadly, Portnoy left a couple of years ago, gutting the band in many ways.

Rush left off.
Whatcha talkin' 'bout, Willis? Rush is still around to this day. They've stood the test of time longer than Led Zeppelin did. They did a new album in 2012 called Clockwork Angels and then toured for it in 2013.

Yeah but idk technical skill is only half of it.
I agree!
Look at the best punk...Johnny Ramone only learned to play guitar at the age of 24 and they put out their first album two years later. He was no guitar genius, but I'd rather listen to him and Tommy's awkward drumming and DeeDee's slovenly bass playing over a ton of the most technically accomplished musicians out there.
It's rock 'n' roll, man! You only have to be close enough, not perfect.

I mean no disrespect towards Rush, but they don't have the creative energy they had in the 70s and early 80s, and that 80s period when they had a keyboard and sounded New Wave...jeez!!!!

I agree with that, but they certainly haven't lost their roots in the same way that lots of other guys have, like Metallica and ACDC and all those bands still trying to make it.
Can you expand on this? What's the other half? Or 50%, if it's not just one part you consider to be "the other half"?
Sunn O))) is fantastic. I think we've talked before about drone. Earth and the Angelic Process are also worth a listen if you get the chance.

I keep an open mind when it comes to most music, but what I meant by my comment about technical skill only being half of it is that it's simply not enough for an artist or band to wow you with impressive licks if you don't feel any different while you're hearing it. That's how a lot of metal is for me.
I highly recommend you go back a few pages to where I posted Abruptum's Gehennae Perpetuae Cruciatus
I'll let you know when I hear it.

Speaking of Earth, this is probably my favourite piece by them [can't really call it a 'song']. It reminds me of the American South West and Spaghetti Westerns like 'The Good, the Bad and The Ugly' and 'Once Upon a Time in the West'. You can just see dangerous-looking men in wide-brimmed hats, long dusters and six-guns and bullet belts with tumble-weeds blowing past them:

BTW The Angelic Process is new to me and I will have to check out some of their other stuff.

Yeah there's a lot of niche stuff that's only for certain people, but I believe all music has something worth taking away from it, except, as you said in another thread, junk like "Soulja Boy."
That's only if you truly listen. Too much these days music is used simply as a kind of audible wallpaper for whatever else we happen to be doing at the time. It's rare to see people just enjoying music and doing nothing else unless they're at a show or concert.
I think that's sad, but music is also very important to me. Maybe some people don't see it the same way. I don't know how I would ever live without music.

Can't let the subject of Drone Doom go by without mentioning one of my favourite bands in the genre, but with a Sludge/Stoner edge to it, the magnificent Japanese band 'Boris', a power trio that sounds like a quintet!

Reminds me of the stuff they did on The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull.
Loved that album. The piece you posted above fits better in with that than the kind of stuff they did on Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version

I've been really getting into a lot of Sludge lately, with its intriguing mix of Doom and Hardcore and a generous dollop of 70s Southern Rock.
'Down' ranks high on my list here. Phil Anselmo sounds MUCH better in this band than he did in Pantera, the inherent moodiness of his voice really comes out.
THe following song is particularly good, as its running guitar theme is pure metaled up Lynyrd Skynyrd, of whom I have fond memories from my youth. It's a song I love to play when feeling depressed and bitter. It has a wonderful Southern swagger to it.

Holy shit there's a band called Black Lodge?!
Blacklodge is an industrial black metal (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Industrial_black_metal) band from France, founded in 1998 by Saint Vincent (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Vincent_%28musician%29) in Grenoble (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grenoble). The band's name is taken from a fictional place, the Black Lodge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Lodge), from the series Twin Peaks (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Peaks) by David Lynch (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Lynch)[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blacklodge#cite_note-FRA-1)
Awesome.

Twin Peaks is the best, and the Black Lodge is one of the most interesting concepts I've ever seen on a television series. Also I'm listening to them now, sounds pretty good.

France is a hotbed of Black Metal! And often of the proggier sort. Brest is the centre for French Black Metal. Many of them are VERY good indeed!

 I've never watched it stoned. The second season seems as though it would be. Also, the show's pace is deliberately slow paced, but obviously it was worth it for me, I've watched the series several times.
