It’s been 50 years since President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act. Since then, the country’s demographics have shifted, and the conversations about race and culture have continued. In this project, journalists, lawyers and civil rights activists explore the historic legislation— pulling the language out of history and telling us how it’s relevant today.

Give my mom a job? Who might be the entity 'GIVING' her mom a job? Since when have we given up hope in finding a job and or working hard to earn the job of one's capabilities? If 'we' can give less intelligent and less qualified blacks jobs via affirmative action and quotas so as to 'EVEN the PLAYING FIELD' then why not 'give' me a high paying job just for being a lowly white ass cracker currently living in a trailer park? Take the civil rights crap and shove it!

Why does someone think they are entitled to be given a job?

Like a lot of other things our increasingly totalitarian government has gotten into (Homeland "Security" always comes to my mind here) the Civil Rights act has been stretched far beyond its initial intent for such things as reverse discrimination and preferential lending based on color just to name a few.

While I don't like the entitlement language generally, realize the content of it, times in the 50s/60s were a lot different, and outside forces greatly affected the ability of black Americans to gain employment.

Also, realize that a kid doesn't care about politics or process information the same way an adult would.
