View Full Version : Why Do You Eat

I have heard many people talk about they eat (food) when they are bored, or upset, or for reasons other than being hungry. I eat when I am hungry, and if not for the hunger pains I probably would sometimes forget to eat.

Vote and/or discuss. Now.

I like eating & cooking...I enjoy different flavors, textures, new ways of preparing familiar ingredients. If I only ate when hungry, I would weigh a lot less!

All the above.

I eat when I'm hungry and on the flip side, I need to eat something even if I'm not hungry because my blood sugar is low.
I eat because it's sitting in front of me
I eat because I have a craving

When hungry. Though sometimes I eat when I'm sleepy and need to stay awake to work or something. I don't know why it has that affect, maybe I just need some energy.

I eat b/c I'm hungry, but I must admit, I do love to cook creole/cajun dishes with seafood like shrimp, crab, fish, and oysters. I sleep much better after eating seafood instead of chicken, pork, or beef.

I eat at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Snaks when something good is on tv. Football or good movie.

If I BBQ..I eat all day long.

I can't eat crap anymore. I could when I was young.

I still like to cook, even for one. It is relaxing. And left overs make for an easy lunch the next day. Lunch in DC can get expensive.

I find that it just doesn't digest properly. I feel like crap and this was true 10 years ago. It's diet not age. If you eat well you won't e used to that poison. McD's fries and pizza is about all I do these days. Every few weeks.

After being sick for so long steady state cardio is hard for me. But sprints- though hard, I recover from really fast. A good sign I think.

Doing the track- sprint the straights and walk the curves, I feel much better doing a mile of sprints than just a steady state mile.

Until I turned 30 I could eat anything and everything. Then I had to start switching to good stuff. And less of it.

Sprinting builds muscle too so I really need to give it another go. It made my heart race and I'm not used to that. Even when I go hard for 5 miles my heart doesn't race like that. Freaked me out a little. lol

If you run an 8 minute mile for 10 miles per day, every day, your heart gets use to it and actually will shrink, because it becomes more efficient. That isn't great for hearth health.

If you sprint or do High intensity interval training (HIIT), you will train you heart to handle real stress. Spike your pulse, then drop it. Then spike it, and drop it.

Note: out of shape people do not try this. You can start slow with speed walking, slow walking, speed walking, slow walking, etc. Build up.

I'm not going over 5 miles, 5 times a week. That's in the warm weather. When it's cold I drop to 15 miles a week. I think it's probably not healthy to go beyond where I'm at. Anyway, yeah, what you say makes sense. I may try it out again soon.

Do real HIIT only 2 times a week. If you are doing it right, you will hurt yourself doing it more. Stick with steady state in between, or a less intense interval work out.

I eat mostly because I'm hungry. This might sound odd but I don't like spending time eating so I can go for long stretches without eating. I hardly ever eat breakfast but I've gotten into the habit of eating raw veggies for lunch.

Now having said that, I'm on vacation now and I'm making brunch every day and I can get used to it to the point that I wake up hungry now where I never do in my usual routine.

That's likely screwing up your metabolism. I eat at least 4 meals a day. Usually more if I include snacks.

Maybe but when I do eat, I like to eat.

Today I skipped brunch because I can tell I'm getting used to it. Went to the beach, got fried again, drank some beer and came back to the cottage and grilled some BBQ chicken legs.

So I had two and a fairly large portion of salad I had, squash, onions, tomatoes, zuchinni (sp?) with house Italian. But I'm full now.

There are nutritional specialists on both sides of the many small versus a few or one large meal per day.... I think the latter method is bad for athletes and people who work out / run a lot. I guess a lot of it has to be tailored to your lifestyle.

I never liked oatmeal growing up. Probably because it was served with added sugar. But I tried it again not to long ago, and it turns out that I like it!

I don't eat breakfast usually but when we're on vacation or a weekend trip, the wife (because she's a woman) likes going out to breakfast at wherever. I typically get a bowl of oatmeal. I love that stuff.

No milk but add brown sugar and raisins and it's awesome.

I'm not crazy about bacon. I know, I'm the oddball. It's ok.

Family likes it squishy so I make it that way. When I eat it I like it a bit burnt.

Eggs - same thing, don't eat much of them. Everyone in my group likes them dippy (over easy) so I've gotten good at making them that way. I fry them in the bacon grease also. Don't eat them myself much but when I do (meme alert) I usually put them on an un-buttered english muffin with cheese and a big dose of sriracha.

Squishy bacon is gross. Eggs I can do any way they come as long as the white is't runny. Over easy is great. Takes some know how and some luck though.

I've gotten over easy down to a science.

I don't mind runny eggs but that's me, I don't speak for my family unit. One breakfast I make (or used to make a lot) is egg in a cup. Basically soft boiled eggs (yeah, runny) and cut up, buttered toast all mixed in a cup.

The toast takes up the runny part and I can tell you my kids eat that like rabid animals.

The yolk is the stuff that is supposed to kill you I think.

My step mom makes hard boiled eggs every time we visit. I peel them, break them in half and pull the yolk out and toss it, take the two empty "cups" and fill them with Franks Red Hot like shot glasses and down they go.

Fucking awesome!

You need to find a butcher who smokes bacon, you'll be in heaven.

They have it here on the beach in the local grocery store, we've had it a couple times already here. I make it in the oven. Grease cookie trays and lay them out, bake on 350.

My doc told me last visit that I could eat all the eggs I want, the " eggs are bad" myth is over. My cholesterol is well below the 200 they want you to be at. Is I eat them almost every morning. They have a stick with it satiating protein. I am rarely hungry before supper time.
