View Full Version : Obama now embraces raising secret cash he once shunned

Now as Obama enthusiastically raises money for Democratic super PACs, he's embracing some of the same secretive elements of that system, drawing charges of hypocrisy from good-governance advocates who say the public deserves to know what Obama's saying and to whom he's saying it when donors pay for a few minutes with the president.

After initially shunning super PACs, Obama in 2012 allowed his top officials to help raise money for the super PAC working to re-elect him, but his campaign promised to still "lead the way" on campaign transparency and reform. Obama took another major step toward embracing super PACs this year by agreeing to appear personally at fundraisers for Democratic super PACs. He argued that Democrats can't afford to play by different rules than Republican groups whose donors were flooding the super PAC zone.

Let the demos pay for his fundraising. The taxpayers shouldn't pay for anything beyond his secret service coverage.

Campaign finance reform to a Democrat means finding ways to cut off Republican donors.

Campaign finance reform to a Republican means finding ways to cut off Democrat donors.

No one really wants real campaign finance reform, they love the money too much.

If you can't change the rules, you have to play by the current ones.

If you can't change the rules, you have to play by the current ones.

And thus suddenly.....cash is no longer a source of corruption in political campaigns....long as it's your candidate.

The Left believes money only corrupts other's campaigns huh Common Sense, Obama is merely "playing by current rules."

Hypocritical by nature.

Of course it's a source. But the fact is, in this current climate where a corporation is a person and PAC's rule the day, if you don't play, you don't win. I fault both parties for this one.

Who introduced campaign finance reform and who blocked it?

You can't reform campaign finance until you address the ridiculous cost of political campaigns in the U.S., now amounting to billions of dollars every presidential year.

Don't forget the current climate where unions spend millions upon millions electing Democrats and most of the money comes from unionized government "workers."

Remember what FDR had to say about that.
