Convicted felon Newton loses bid to return to Connecticut General Assembly

By - Associated Press - Tuesday, August 12, 2014

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Former state senator and convicted felon Ernest Newton II is not returning to the Connecticut General Assembly.

The Bridgeport Democrat lost Tuesday’s primary to Bridgeport Board of Education member Andre Baker. Newton was the party’s endorsed candidate for a seat in the House of Representatives.

Newton left the state Senate after pleading guilty in 2005 to federal extortion and campaign-finance felonies. He served a five-year prison sentence.

Imagine that, a felon convicted of federal extortion and campaign-finance felonies is the Democrat party’s endorsed candidate. That should tell the good citizens of Connecticut where their Democrat party's coming from. I guess to them federal extortion and campaign-finance felonies makes for a damn fine candidate. Newton's out but will the stink of the Connecticut Democrat parties endorsement of the guy drag down Baker's chances? I reckon so, but we'll have to wait till November 5th to know for sure.
