Too funny! The 'C' average, coke-addled frat boy is gonna dazzle them all with his down-home, language-butchering charm!

Remember when I wrote about for-profit colleges, student loans (http://crooksandliars.com/karoli/varney-and-horowitz-blame-liberal-arts-stud), and how they're sucking the life (http://www.gao.gov/assets/590/586457.html) out of the federal student loan program and how the graduation rate is abysmal despite the fact that they cost nearly five times what public universities cost?

If you don't understand my objection to the school privatization movement affectionately referred to by some as the "education deform" movement, go back and read that first paragraph again, because whether it is K-12 or college, it's obscene.

If you still don't think it's obscene, consider this. There is a conference happening in Las Vegas in June to bring together the deformers faithful and the profiteers (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/davidhalperin/scams-and-frauds-plus-geo_b_1441368.html) who stand to become brand-spanking new billionaires as our public education system is slowly whittled away into nothing. And guess who the keynote speakers are?

George W. Bush and Michelle Rhee. The Bush keynote is being sponsored by Pearson, that wonderful testing and textbook company whose non-profit foundation is being investigated (http://www.nytimes.com/schoolbook/2011/12/22/state-is-investigating-pearson-foundation-trips/) by the New York Attorney General for trying to influence public officials with trips and other perks. Bush and Co are, of course, one of the few standing in line (http://bobsidlethoughtsandmusings.wordpress.com/2012/01/30/jeb-bush-takes-his-ed-privatization-show-on-the-road-again/) waiting to reap the harvest of privatization goodies alongside brother Jeb, who is riding the privatization bandwagon in every state he can.

And of course, there is Michelle Rhee, the poseur who claims to be a "reformer" while she cuddles in bed with the righties like Betsy DeVos, ALEC, and now Dubya.

Let's see, I believe that Bush had higher grades in college than John Kerry. We don't know how well Obama did as he's hidden this along with everything else. However, perhaps when he was Barry Soetoro he got better grades.

From the link:

After being regaled with depressing sales pitches on how to wreck our schools across the board, at least there's the promise of the Annual Concert starring Credence Clearwater...um, Revisited (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creedence_Clearwater_Revisited). They sort of look like CCR but there's no John Fogerty. Just the bass player and drummer from the original band. Still, I thought I'd include "Fortunate Son (http://www.lyricsfreak.com/c/creedence+clearwater+revival/fortunate+son_20034362.html)" as part of this post in honor of Dubya.
While Rhee and Dubya hold hands and rock back and forth dreaming of the big bucks in their hand when they conquer public education, perhaps the lyrics will resonate (http://www.elyrics.net/read/c/creedence-clearwater-revival-lyrics/fortunate-son-lyrics.html):

Some folks are born made to wave the flag
Ooh, they're red, white and blue
And when the band plays "Hail to the Chief"
Oh, they point the cannon at you, Lord
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no Senator's son
It ain't me, it ain't me
I ain't no fortunate one, no
Some folks are born silver spoon in hand
Lord, don't they help themselves, oh
But when the tax men come to the door
Lord, the house look a like a rummage sale, yes

:roflmao:

Well they did find out that when he graduated from Colombia he was a C average Student, with a major in Poly Sci and and a Minor in International Relations. No outstanding achievements or any awards. Not to noticeable with those of his Class. Michael Medved has some stuff up on his site about Obama's Schooling.

Although Michelle Obama at the time was graduating Cuma-Lade and with honors.

Well not really.....thats just what they want people to think. Both did however get grants. But its not like they didnt have any money for education. Like they tell the Obamatons. Obama lived with his grandmother. Althought not very rich. She was the VP of a Bank with a salary of close to 400K. Plus Michelle's family had some too.

Both could have went to Community Colleges in their respective home states. Yet they both decided to go to the East Coast. Jump right into the IVY League. Princeton and Harvard are by no means cheap schools.

So when Obama pitches that story about they had to work two jobs and bust their azz just to go to school. That their student loans were higher than the Mortgage on their Condo. Thats all it is.....a story for the Wide-eyed Zombies. As the real truth.....it was their own choices that put them in debt by wanting to move out east and rub elbows with the poor and needy, erm I mean Poobahs and Greedy.

Right. Because anyone can be accepted into Harvard. All you have to do is just jump right in. What snobs. Right MMC? :roflmao: As to the rest of your silly, meaningless ponderings about their debt and intentions - unworthy of comment. :)

And then Saint Ronnie was elected Governor in 1966. He set about right away to "clean up" UC Berkeley and get rid of those pesky anti-war protesters. In his view, they should love it or leave it, and if they didn't leave it, he was perfectly willing to price them out of the soon-to-be free university market.
Reagan's war on the UC system was an economic one. If he couldn't tear gas unruly students, he'd just make sure they paid for their education. And with that, he ended free tuition in the UC system (http://mydd.com/2009/11/19/undoing-reagan-restoring-the-california-dream). As he brandished his pen, he declared that "the state should not subsidize intellectual curiosity."
:dollar:

These "institutions" (and I use the term guardedly) spend millions on television advertising, direct mail campaigns, and other recruiting gimmicks to grab federal dollars from veterans and poor people who cannot and will not be able to afford to repay the loans, even if they're able to get better jobs after they have their piece of paper called a "degree."
As Huffington Post observes (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/04/18/for-profit-colleges-senate-bill_n_1435075.html?ref=mostpopular), students at for-profit colleges are twice as likely (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/09/12/for-profit-colleges-student-loan-_n_959058.html) to default on their student loans as students from public colleges and universities.
The real travesty here, though, is that students are borrowing money at all for a public education
Free instate tuition -amazing.

the state should not subsidize intellectual curiosity of course not, we want them dumbned down. and in debt. Much better that way.
