It finally happened

some 19 year old woman got her hands on a electric drill painted black and pointed it all over and the cops shot her. On my local news, we saw her shot and fall to the sidewalk.

You will never see protests since she is not black.

SAN JOSE, (http://topics.sacbee.com/San+Jose/) Calif. -- San Jose (http://topics.sacbee.com/San+Jose/) police say an officer shot and killed a 19-year-old woman who threatened to shoot members of her family.
Police Sgt. Heather Randol said officers received a call Thursday morning about somebody threatening to kill family members with an Uzi assault weapon.
They went to a town house about two blocks of Eastridge Mall and told the woman to come outside and put her weapon down.
Randol said moments later, she came out pointing an object at police and an officer opened fire.
The object turned out to be a cordless drill that was painted black.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she later died.
The officer, identified as Wakana Okuma, has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation into the deadly encounter.

Alternatively, you won't see protests because she had threatened to shoot her family, and came out pointing what appeared to be a weapon at police.

Quite honestly, it sounds like suicide by cop.

Now the poor schmuck is going to have to fill out a shitload of paperwork.

A hand drill looks exactly like a hand drill. This is a case where the cops should have used binoculars if they had poor eyesight. i agree, she wanted to die.

Oh if she was black, it would be all over the nation on TV news.

This is happens all the time and when I point it out that they're too quick on the trigger, I hate cops.

I wish I had the same rules of engagement while I was in Iraq. I could have blown away half the city.

When it's painted black, and doesn't have a bit in, it could look enough like a weapon that I'm not going to have any beef with the officer who decides to shoot.

Take this drill:

8569
Cut off the cord at the handle, paint it black, remove the bit, and it'd be a more than passable resemblance to a handgun.

I saw it on TV last night and it had the battery-pack attached to the grip.

I would not be fooled for an instant.

I used to do a fair number of appraisals in that area of San Jose and believe that part of town is rough.

But the cops know a drill from a gun.

Don't they?

Our court deputies arrested a man with a "cell phone gun". It looked just like a cell phone but could fire a bullet. He wanted to shoot the State Attorney who sent his son to prison.

Not all guns look like guns. Dillinger escaped jail with a gun carved out of soap.

Well, I haven't seen it yet. (Can't watch any streaming video at the office anymore, including the training videos put out by our training department.)

Assuming you're correct, then he needs to be pulled off the street until he's been better trained, at the very least.

My two beefs with the police are 1, using tactical squads for non-tactical duties, and 2, poor training. For the reasons behind point 1, one need only look at Ferguson. For point 2, do you remember Amadou Diallo, back in 1999? Four officers, all firing at one man at close range, in a smallish space, and they managed to hit him only 19 times out of 41 rounds fired. That is abysmal shooting.

It sounds like this is another instance of #2.

Err on the side of caution, and no I don't think drills look like guns.
