This kid is in the second grade.

A lot is made about the professionalization of young athletes in America, but young U.S. phenoms have nothing on their Spanish and South American counterparts. If there were ever any doubts about that, they could safely be dispelled on Monday, when it was announced that Spanish soccer giants Real Madrid signed Argentine 7-year-old Leonel Angel Coira to a youth development contract.

I saw that...completely ridiculous. I think they were just trying to make a splash. The odds of it panning out are slim, but I suppose worth the investment.

Let him have a childhood. 7 is way too young for that shit. I'd be pissed if recruiters went after my second grader.

Yeah, it's a different world. They often get decent or good schooling in the academies. Often a lot better than what the parents could afford. I don't remember exactly how it works but the kids are around others their own age. They don't have school sports teams there we way we do here.

Ah, I see. The whole contratc part of it seems weird but I gues if you have no local high school team that makes sense.
