Nope. The test is bogus. Speaky da english should be the only thing that a citizen needs. If they can do that then they will figure everything else out.

How do you take that test if you don't know English?

Stay back home until you learn English?

http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/2011/0104/Could-you-pass-a-US-citizenship-test/Who-signs-bills I'm into history and politics.. the first 20 were easy for me. I could see where an immigrant could miss a couple.. but it was easy enough I did not care to continue. I could see it being a bit hard for any newcomer to the USA. If you grew up in America..are semi smart + educated it ought to be EASY to score 90%.

Stay back home until you learn English? Well....there's some incentives to learn English if you want to make it as a US Citizen. Not sure the test is "English Only" but I assume knowing SOME English does help.

No. I'm not busting chops here. It is the strongest asset an immigrant could have - to be able to communicate. They are in a better position to not get taken advantage of and to get better employment. Green card em until they can read and speak English then they're in. Screw the history test. In fact I think that literacy in English should be a requirement for all citizenship. Not just because you are born here.

Still, you didn't answer my question.

How do you read the test if you haven't learned English?

So passing the test settles both requirements.

They provide an interpreter in ANY language for people taking the test. There is no requirement to know English.

An officer administers a naturalization test to determine whether an applicant meets the English and civics requirements.

http://www.uscis.gov/policymanual/HTML/PolicyManual-Volume12-PartE-Chapter2.html

You Are Exempt From The English Language Requirement, But Are Still Required To Take The Civics Test If You Are:

Age 50 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident (green card holder) in the United States for 20 years (commonly referred to as the “50/20” exception).
OR
Age 55 or older at the time of filing for naturalization and have lived as a permanent resident in the United States for 15 years (commonly referred to as the “55/15” exception).

If you take the test in your native language, you must bring an interpreter with you to your interview.

The history test is about assimilation. I don't want immigrants getting US citizenship unless they want to be US citizens. We don't need a Londonistan (http://Londonistan).

I don't understand the hoopla about immigrants learning English. Half of our native-born white citizens can't even speak English these days.

Here is how I feel about immigration. I love burritos, I love pan fried dumplings, and Indian food gives me the shits so they can go home.
