TOKYO (AP) — The head of Syria's main opposition group said Friday the twin suicide car bombings that killed 55 people in Damascus appeared to be the work of al-Qaida forces he said were linked to the regime of President Bashar Assad.
The relationship between the Syrian regime and al-Qaida is very strong," he said, adding that the Syrian government had cooperated with al-Qaida against U.S. forces in Iraq, as well as in its movements in Lebanon.
The United States condemned the bombings and expressed concern that al-Qaida may be increasingly taking advantage of Syria's prolonged instability. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told reporters that U.S. intelligence indicates "an al-Qaida presence in Syria," but said the extent of its activity was unclear.
If the Annan plan fails, "the only choice for us will be armed conflict," he said.....snip~

What a crock of shit. AQ working for Assad and the Shia. These desperate lying mofoes will say anything and do anything to take over Syria. AQ my azz. If anything they are attacking Assad's forces. As they had threatened to do when this all first began. As they didnt take kindly to Assad killing other Sunni Arabs.
If it doesnt work it will lead to armed conflict. Uhm.....none of the Sunni Rebels have quit attacking Assad's Forces. Even tho there was suppose to be a cease-fire. Once again they can't do anything if Assad is allowed to stick around. Their usual Chant after Obama said Assad must go. All the while As SOS Clinton gives whatever aid to these Rebels.
At least Panetta put it in perspective.
