The airstrikes and other actions President Obama is taking against Islamic State deserve bipartisan support. They are beginning to degrade the terrorist group, also known as ISIS, but will not destroy it, for one reason above all: The administration still has no effective policy to remove Bashar Assad from power and end the conflict in Syria.
Sometimes, I hate being right. Also, fuck "Al Qaeda John" McCain and Lindsay Graham.

Those fools don't have a clue as to what they are talking about. Removing Assad would make IS stronger...

I do not think removing Assad would help. Who would take his place?? When we create these voids, terrorists fill in these openings. Removing Hussein from power in Iraq seemed like the noble, humane thing to do, but without a military presence left behind to maintain "peace" the terrorists took hold. His replacement was worse than he was.
The entire mindset of that region is so foreign to our way of thinking, we will never make a viable democracy in that area. We're just spinning our wheels.

Taking Saddam out and not replacing him with another dictator was the mistake. The US democracy fetish was doomed to fail regardless of how long the US military stayed there.
