In Louisiana, both sides claim defense of Medicare

By BILL BARROW and MELINDA DESLATTE - Associated Press - Tuesday, October 21, 2014

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - An old political standby - the future of Medicare - is emerging as the go-to issue in Louisiana’s bitter Senate race as the candidates woo seniors who typically wield strong influence in midterm elections.

The challenge for voters is to figure out which side, if either, is telling the whole truth about who would cut and who would protect the popular insurance program.

Obamacare cuts Medicare by $716 billion. Here’s how.

By Sarah Kliff August 14, 2012

That $716 billion figure is one you'll probably be hearing a lot about during this election cycle. It's worth understanding where it comes from and what the spending reductions mean for the Medicare program.

First, where it comes from. On July 24, the Congressional Budget Office sent a letter to House Speaker John Boehner, detailing the budget impact of repealing the Affordable Care Act. If Congress overturned the law, "spending for Medicare would increase by an estimated $716 billion over that 2013–2022 period."

Mary Landrieu votes Aye on Obama Care (http://www.opencongress.org/vote/2009/s/396) that cut $716 billion out of Medicare.

This is what Mary Landrieu had to say about Obama Care.....

SEN. MARY LANDRIEU (D-La.): “If you like the insurance that you have, you'll be able to keep it.” (MSNBC’s Hardball, 12/16/09)

Landrieu has made the issue of entitlement programs for the elderly a centerpiece of her campaign, traveling Tuesday to three senior centers across south Louisiana to announce a new endorsement from the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, a Washington-based advocacy group.

I wonder if she's telling them she voted for cutting $716 billion from Medicare? I hope the old folks voting in November realize it was the Democrats that cut Medicare benefits $716 billion in order to help finance Obama Care and expanded Medicaid.

Medicaid Helps Hospitals Pay For Illegal Immigrants’ Care

By Phil Galewitz February 12, 2013

Federal law generally bars illegal immigrants from being covered by Medicaid. But a little-known part of the state-federal health insurance program for the poor has long paid about $2 billion a year for emergency treatment for a group of patients who, according to hospitals, mostly comprise illegal immigrants.

This is where your medicare money is going. The money for health care for the illegals streaming across the border has to come from somewhere, sorry seniors the Democrats are taking it from your Medicare. That would include Mary Landrieu who voted for it.
