Kentucky will join Illinois as the second state to make bass fishing an official high school sport. — Gofishn

As Cincinnati.com (http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20120519/SPT0302/305190061/Kentucky-sponsor-bass-fishing-state-championship?odyssey=nav%7Chead) and other national media outlets (http://tucsoncitizen.com/usa-today-sports/2012/05/21/kentucky-adds-bass-fishing-as-title-sport/) reported, Kentucky will join Illinois as the second state to sponsor a high school bass fishing state championship, starting next April.

Kentucky's High School Athletic Association announced back in February that bass fishing, bowling and competitive cheer would be added as sports in the coming year.

The current competitive format would have two student-anglers fish from a boat that's driven by an adult. The best five fish for each team member would be added up to determine a winner based on total weight. All fish will then be released after the weigh-in.

Illinois announced last year that they've gone from 99 high school bass fishing teams to 232 in the past four years.

If anything, the sport gives other students that don't want to play baseball or football as chance to compete in a sport on the high school level against their peers. And that's never a bad thing.....snip~

You have got to be kidding me.....Bass fishing as a High School Sport. I can't believe it is doing well in Illinois. Can't believc Illinois was the first state to do so either. Oh yeah, all those Downtown Chicago Kids will really want to get into some fishing for Bass. Hell they don't even do the shiznit on their own time let alone have to take something like this in high school.

Let me guess the Chicago Public Schools will be Fishing For Carp and Catfish. The Northside will fish For Angel-Fish and Pike, while the Southside gets stuck with Smelt and Minnows.

Next up Sea-Horse Racing and remembering not to try and yell under water.

That is SO cool. Fishing is hard.
Oh yeah, cating a breem is no biggee, but bass and other "smart" fish? Not so easy at all.

<---My eagle disagrees with me. Oh well.

 I have no problem with Cheating to bring fish to the top of the Water. Quarter Stick of Dynamite.....dinner is on that nite.

I mean now if they were teaching them Spear-fishing, hunting fish with a bow. How to make a spear and or bow. I could go for something like that. At least then they are teaching some survival skills.

As you can tell I am not a big fan of fishing. Let alone to consider it a sport. Necessity is one thing and time is another.

 Well I do think it's good to give the kids after school activities. Keeps them out of trouble, even if it's bad news for the fish.

The fish are released and to me I happen to love fishing even tho my dad and I always let them go. I prefer channel-cat fishing myself. Taking a kid fishing is a good way to communicate with them and spend time with them. As long as you don't kill the fist and not eat them, I have no problem with this.
