The New $300 Million Louisiana Purchase on the Backs of Tax Payers … How Senator Mary Landrieu (D-La.) Vote was Bought for Obamacare (http://scaredmonkeys.com/2009/11/22/the-new-300-million-louisiana-purchase-on-the-backs-of-tax-payers-how-senator-mary-landrieu-d-la-vote-was-bought-for-obamacare/)

However, sadly on Saturday night once again we were witness to a government payoff to Democrat Louisiana Senator Mary Landrieu to secure her vote so that Harry Reid could get 60 votes and begin the debate on Obamacare in the Senate. $300 million payoff for her vote! Hell, the original Louisiana Purchase only cost $15 million. Can you say quit pro quo, payoff!
In the end the Senate vote was 60–39 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00353)to further the debate on the governemnt take over of healthcare.

On the eve of Saturday’s showdown in the Senate over health-care reform, Democratic leaders still hadn’t secured the support of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.), one of the 60 votes needed to keep the legislation alive. The wavering lawmaker was offered a sweetener: at least $100 million in extra federal money for her home state.
And so it came to pass that Landrieu walked onto the Senate floor midafternoon Saturday to announce her aye vote — and to trumpet the financial “fix” she had arranged for Louisiana. “I am not going to be defensive,” she declared. “And it’s not a $100 million fix. It’s a $300 million fix.”

Mary Mary Mary I wonder how this will play in your run off now? Remember when Cee'Gar said no races were being ran against Obamacare? Snicker snicker LOL! Can't wait to hear your answer to Gruber's video.

Is that a call out? You made a big thread about no races being about Ocare. That was not exactly correct. My point, based on your thread, is this race could be all about that now that Obama's team has cornered her.......She will have to answer for the lie.

anyone interested in looking to the past for some info on what happened when LA needed money for Katrina recovery and who threatened to quit to keep his Bridge to Nowhere? Looks like re-buying Alaska costs more:

'The Gravina Island Bridge, commonly referred to as the "Bridge to Nowhere", was a proposed bridge to replace the ferry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchikan_International_Airport_Ferry) that currently connects the town of Ketchikan, Alaska (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchikan,_Alaska), United States (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States), with Gravina Island (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravina_Island), an island that contains the Ketchikan International Airport (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketchikan_International_Airport) as well as 50 residents. The bridge was projected to cost $398 million.'

'In his speech on the Senate floor, Stevens threatened to quit Congress if the funds were removed from his state'.

quote Palin: ' she said: "OK, you’ve got Valley trash standing here in the middle of nowhere. I think we’re going to make a good team as we progress that bridge project"

In response Rep. Mica (R-FL), spoke in opposition responding "Well congratulations my colleagues welcome to the era of smoke and mirrors and that's exactly what this motion to recommit is and I urge its defeat. And you heard the gentleman describing bridges and he again is trying to mislead the entire house on this particular motion to recommit. It is smoke and mirrors, and I urge the defeat of the motion to recommit." which was the complete argument and explanation he gave, even though he was allotted a full 5 minutes to respond.[55] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravina_Island_Bridge#cite_note-House_Session_Mar_2.2C_2011-55)

Failed by recorded vote: 181 - 246, 2 Present[ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gravina_Island_Bridge#cite_note-57)
