Sen. Ted Cruz said today that President Obama will "no doubt threaten a shutdown" with his upcoming executive action on immigration.

It was all political theatre. This is the reality of our increasing polarization. Ted Cruz has to say and do whatever it takes to keep getting elected, and he doesn't serve a battleground, which means he can exclusively appeal to Republican conservatives. When he runs for President, watch him try to balance his radical-sounding Senate career with a more moderate tone.

It happens the same on the other side, too. The parties only try to sound moderate and in the middle in tough elections, when they need more than just their base to come vote for them.
