Sen. Chuck Schumer: Obamacare Focused 'On The Wrong Problem,' Ignores The Middle Class

Avik Roy Avik Roy , Forbes Staff

Despite the enduring unpopularity of Obamacare, Congressional Democrats have up to now stood by their health care law, allowing that “it’s not perfect” but that they are proud of their votes to pass it. That all changed on Tuesday, when the Senate’s third-highest-ranking Democrat—New York’s Chuck Schumer—declared that “we took [the public’s] mandate and put all our focus on the wrong problem—health care reform…When Democrats focused on health care, the average middle-class person thought, ‘The Democrats aren’t paying enough attention to me.’”

Sen. Schumer made his remarks at the National Press Club in Washington. “Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them…Now, the plight of uninsured Americans and the hardships caused by unfair insurance company practices certainly needed to be addressed,” Schumer maintained. “But it wasn’t the change we were hired to make. Americans were crying out for the end to the recession, for better wages and more jobs—not changes in health care.”

Let's see Chuckles is up for re-election in 2 years AND 28 Democrat Senators (http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/26-senators-who-voted-for-obamacare-wont-be-part-of-new-senate/article/2555721?custom_click=rss) who voted for Obama Care are long gone. I wonder why maybe Ex-Senator Schumer is now coming out admitting that they focused on the wrong problem. Like James Carville said "[It's] the economy stupid". Obama Care has only made that WORSE because young healthy folks are being forced to pay for health care they don't need in order to finance the older folks who do. Obama counted on the youth vote to get and keep him in office, I guess that goes for Senators and Representatives too. Chuckles says it wasn't the change they were hired to make, yet he voted against repealing it (http://www.healthreformvotes.org/congress/roll-call-votes/s2011-9). That's no surprise as he voted for Obama Care (https://www.govtrack.us/congress/votes/111-2009/s396) in the first place.

BINGO! We have a winner....

"After passing the stimulus, Democrats should have continued to propose middle-class-oriented programs and built on the partial success of the stimulus, but unfortunately Democrats blew the opportunity the American people gave them," Schumer said. "We took their mandate and put all of our focus on the wrong problem—health care reform."

The third-ranking Senate Democrat noted that just about 5 percent of registered voters in the United States lacked health insurance before the implementation of the law, arguing that to focus on a problem affecting such "a small percentage of the electoral made no political sense."

The larger problem, affecting most Americans, he said, was a poor economy resulting from the recession. "When Democrats focused on health care, the average middle-class person thought, 'The Democrats aren't paying enough attention to me,' " Schumer said.

Also, democrats need to stop saying that a new stated final number (LOL, when do they not restate numbers?) of 7 million not 8 not 10 now have insurance thanks to the act.

BOLOGNA.....

Half had it and were kickoff their policies, costing them more now. So maybe 3 million people have HC that didn't.

Genius idea Obama.

28 Senators Who Voted for Obamacare Are Gone

By Philip Klein, Washington Examiner - November 5, 2014

On Dec. 24, 2009, the Democratic-controlled Senate passed President Obama’s healthcare law with a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority, triggering a massive backlash that propelled Republicans to control of the House the following year. On the Senate side, going into Tuesday’s elections, 25 senators who voted for Obamacare were already out or not going be part of the new Senate being sworn in on January.

Nic its not as much that they passed it as the way Nancy Pelosi, leered at america every single day on tv telling us YOU WILL have health care.

There are always one liners that live on forever, you have to pass it to know whats in it, is a classic
How shes still minority leader after two election trouncings in a row in kind of unbelievable.

The democrats are a mess right now, they have lost support across the board and have most definitely lost the biggest voter base the middle independents.

I blame obama for alot of it. He didnt fight for workers or the unemployed or under employed or poor AMERICANS. He was always off on a mission for some special interests and he lost the meat and patato votes.

Many on the left are in denial that they have slid into a deep hole.
They keep defending the same stupid shit that got them in the hole.

I will not sugarcoat anything for the left or the right, I call it like I see it.

Repeal what Guber? I told you maybe a dozen times it should be fixed to work for everyone and will not be repealed. Make it work. But it needs some serious scrubbing and when the others start getting the price tags soon, plus losing policies and some of the other hidden expenses kick in people are gonna be really pissed.

They were really dishonest about this plan and they knew/know it, that was my main complaint along with changing the rules to pass it and not taking any suggestions. Really crappy for the country and poor leadership that has cost them dearly as chucky indicates.
