WASHINGTON – The energy industry and coal-producing states are projecting a wave of power plant closures in the final two years of the Obama administration as Environmental Protection Agency regulations take hold.
The goal of the agency's campaign is to cut down on carbon pollution. However, industry groups and agencies say the EPA’s demands are simply too difficult to meet and will lead to powering down many facilities -- eliminating hundreds of jobs and hurting cash-strapped state economies. This can only help Republicans.

Wood stoves. And that creates more pollution than coal fired plants. Go figure.

You guys do realize those plants aren't closing tomorrow right? They are supposed to be phased out over the next 16 years. Some will be recomisioned as gas plants, some will not but there are plans to maintain generation capacity throughout.

The coal could be converted to methanol with very little pollution.

For all I know that could be the plan. Sounds like a good idea to me anyway.

Those plants worked hard to get cleaner. Now they will be phased out. Well, most will regret it once they complain their bill is too high.

Bill Clinton got rid of the best coal in the USA at the Grand Staircase Escalante in Utah. It simply can't be used.

Methanol can be converted to gasoline.

Why convert methanol to gasoline? Methanol is cheaper than gasoline after taking into consideration the lesser gas mileage.

It is an unneeded step for transportation fuel.

Due to the liberal A-Holes that control California, my electricity has gone from $0.08 kWh to $0.15 kWh since 2009.
