Democrats Slam Obama Over Secretive Trade Deals, Say He Needs Economics 'Refresher'

WASHINGTON -- House Democrats took President Barack Obama to task on Thursday for urging Congress to grant him the authority to fast-track huge international trade deals with little transparency.
"The president's policy is not exactly beloved within the Democratic caucus; we're very unhappy with it," Rep. Alan Grayson (D-Fla.) told HuffPost outside of a lively Capitol Hill press conference composed of lawmakers, environmentalists and labor advocates opposing fast-track authority.
Under authority that expired years ago, the president was allowed to "fast-track" trade deals with little input from lawmakers, who could only vote yea or nay on the final deal. Obama has since shown interest (http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/12/03/us-usa-trade-obama-idUSKCN0JH24220141203) in reviving this authority, urging Congress to back fast-track legislation. With this authority, the president could quickly close the Trans-Pacific Partnership (http://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2014/dec/19/trans-pacific-partnership-tpp-trade-agreement-climate-treaty), an aggressive and controversial trade deal he is pursuing with countries in Asia and the Pacific region.

Why does anyone have to be "Brave" to Agree to Disagree ... Oh wait, that's not in the Conservative playbook

This is something that confounds me. Why do conservatives think all Democrats are in step behind Obama?

Grayson, et al, are Progressives. We're known to criticize the prez.

What is brave about slamming a lame duck POTUS? They don't need him for re election. Not saying what they are saying is necessarily wrong, it just isn't brave to say it.

I'll consider it brave when other leftists call these Democrats

racist for daring to criticize Obama's policies.

I don't find it that surprising. Seems everyone is disenchanted with his behaviour and actions. Charm can only prop someone up for so long.

Yes, fortunately there are still democrats that are true liberal/progressives.

What, did you think, ALL dems are centrists?

I don't even think it has that much to do with where on the spectrum a Democrat is. Obama has done a lot of objectionable things that don't really have a political stance.
