My wife has been in town for two weeks now. She goes back home for school this coming Saturday. She's Catholic, and because I support her I support her religion, too. Yesterday, she decided she wanted to go to mass while she was here, since she went with me to my church (I'm not Christian, I just go to church for the good messages and people) last week, so I said let's go. We went to the 9 AM mass and let me tell you, as a non-Catholic, it felt strangely homey to me.
I liked it. Best part is with the 9 AM mass, we get done with just enough time to get to the other side of town where my church is and go there after. Double the church!

The first time I went I liked it too. It's way short. In the South church just aint that short. I couldn't believe when it was over.

Double dipper? Do they cancel each other out or does it double your chances at heaven (or whatever is the good post death place)?

I'm ultra-pious I guess. I'm also going to be going to synagogue on Fridays and Saturdays if I can get Fridays off.

Protestant churches just don't inspire the sense of mystery and awe that the Catholic & Church of England services do. I was raised a southern Baptist and the first time I attended Mass was a shock. Even though I don't claim or practice a religion, I still have a fondness for the beauty of the Mass. I always felt as though I was really in the Presence of something worship worthy.

I think that's part of why it felt oddly like "home" to me even though it was my first time. I grew up Protestant (Assembly of God, to be specific), but my heart and soul have always yearned for the more traditional and ritualistic religions like Catholicism, Judaism, and paganism.

I think sach is right...the ceremony, the rituals make it clear that this is something Special. Maybe its just a human desire for a ritual or something that doesn't copy our normal communications. I've never figured it out. I'm not a Catholic and doubt I could ever be one but they do corner the market on a beautiful ritual.

I am surprised your tongue did not cleave to the roof of your mouth. That is what usually happens to hypocrites.

Where's the hypocrisy, exactly?

It is a beautiful ceremony, especially when you fully understand it and follow it. Unfortunately some Catholics are just "there" and don't get the full benefit of it's beautiful meaning. Glad you enjoyed it.

Talk to me when you survive a catholic wedding, funeral, or rosary service.
LOL.

Only the priest has wine in our church. He feels since its blessed, it's a sacrilege to have it in paper disposable cups. Everyone drinking it out of the Chalice was discontinued for sanitary reasons. We receive only the host in Communion. The Mass is the high point of my week.
