What's the point of this? I'm all for it, but I don't see the rest of DC following along. Don't they know how much money is tied up in the war on drugs and the prison system? No way this goes through.

"Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) and Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) will introduce "bi-partisan legislation tomorrow ending the federal war on marijuana and letting states legalize, regulate, tax, and control marijuana without federal interference," according to a press release from the Marijuana Policy Project that just hit my inbox. More from that email:

Other co-sponsors include Rep. John Conyers (D-MI), Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN), Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO), and Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA). The legislation would limit the federal government’s role in marijuana enforcement to cross-border or inter-state smuggling, allowing people to legally grow, use or sell marijuana in states where it is legal. The legislation is the first bill ever introduced in Congress to end federal marijuana prohibition."

Makes sense. Just like state gun laws are quite different.

i would have zero problem with that.

california could be reefer heaven and utah could outlaw it.

still, when is the last time the federal government gave up ANY rights, even those they took unconstitutionally? its not going to happen.

obama promised an end to federal marijuana busts as a priority and it turns out that was a lie too.

I like that idea. No wait I don't Aw, fuck....yes I do! O0

Hey ADMIN, if the federal government legalizes marijuana, can we evoke a joint-smoking smiley in the line-up of emoticons?

How about a bong-smoking smiley?

We already have alcoholic ones. Maybe we should also legalize cocaine.

And when the drug cartels start lacing their weed with heroin, as was being done in Thailand when I was there, what then? How many out there drink 3% near beer? Not many and I don't think many will go for government weed once they have tried the "good stuff" the cartels will start providing. For the record I've never used any illicit drugs, but in Thailand back in the 70's I saw the effect the Thai weed had on our troops. Those idiots were willing to chance a death penalty to get high.

If lacing weed with heroin was truly effective, it would be so popular by now.

Most a person needs to worry about as far as laced drugs would be powders and pills.

I don't know anything about Thai-stick today, but back in the 1970's it was highly overrated.

Having a more stoned socirty is not in the best public interest

It will cost more to deal with the damage of drug zombies causing chaos than we save in prison costs

States already do legalize regulate and tax without federal interference.

If course, if people are dumb enough to elect a guy like Chris Christie, he'll stick really REALLY big government up Washington, Oregon and Colorado's yangs.

Funny how candidates from such different points of view can agree on important common sense and rights related issues when they are not due and owing to the mainstream Donkephant cesspool.

No, not at all like that. I've long said she is as neocon as most of the mainstream repubs
