I am actually going to heat it up.

Makes 2 bowls

http://www.all-about-juicing.com/images/tomatobasil.jpg Ingredients :

8 tomatoes
1 carrot
1 handful of basil (approx ½ cup- less is fine too)
Salt and pepper to taste
1tsp of dried parsley
1 tbsp in olive oil
½ cup of cream

Directions :

Juice the tomatoes, basil and carrots. Roll the basil in a long oval shaped ball to easily fit into the juicer.
Add salt, dried parsley and pepper. If you want it raw, then it’s ready to enjoy.
If you’d like a cooked and warmed version, simmer for 10-15 minutes in a pot over medium-low heat. If you like it creamy add a ½ cup of cream to the recipe before simmering.

Tomatoes are actually better for you when they're cooked anyway.

Yes, it activates one of the nutrients: lycopene (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lycopene).

Tomato basil soup is one of my favorite meals. A local restaurant makes a great one with a quiche and fruit plate.

I'm kind of weird with tomatoes. I love them in or on just about anything, Love garden tomato sandwiches, and cherry tomatoes off the vine. I cannot stand tomato soup or juice though.

Me too with plain tomato soup and juice. I like V-8 juice, and a spicy Bloody Mary is wonderful. Whenever I fly I drink a Bloody Mary, it settles my stomach. AMTRAK from NY to Fla. was a horrible trip.
I was so sick with motion sickness, and another traverler told me about a Bloody Mary helping with that. It worked. The Bar Car and I had a close personal experience that trip. lol

I don't like raw tomatoes at all. I can tolerate them on a sub sandwich but that's it. I like them in soups, stews, and of course a red sauce.

I can't do Bloody Marys either, not for lack of trying. And every single person I have told that to, has said "you would like mine", but I didn't. Lol.

Ah, just give me a whiskey neat. No need to get extravagant.

Last night I ate at a really nice restaurant and they had some special drinks for Valentine's day and one of them was a cherry whiskey sour. It was amazing. I hate whiskey but I like whiskey sours, and using the cherry foam and adding it into the lime mixture was so good.

CO's awesome bloody mary:

A huge tumbler, fill with ice. Then half tomato juice (bottled, no canned please) and half vodka, middle shelf is ok.

tbsp of worcestershire sauce
tsp freshly cracked pepper
tsp of celery salt
shot glass or so (more or less to taste) of hot sauce, whatever one you like, I use tobasco or franks

Mix well, wouldn't hurt to keep an inch or so from the rim of the tumbler.

No celery sticks, feh.

I guess it's more of a male drink. I like mine neat even in the Summer. Maybe a dash of water in a single malt scotch.

My parents used to make highballs - whiskey and sours (grapefruit soda).

I've made them at home on occasion, they're pretty good for whiskey drinks.

Whiskey is a pretty versatile mixer but I do like southern bourbon every once in a while straight (on ice).

I'm more of a wino but I do order whiskey sours fairly often. I'm not sure why I dislike it so much on its own. I don't really like most liquors except maybe tequila, vodka and to some extent gin. Hate rum, even when it's some 'girly' version like a pineapple or coconut flavoured. Hate flavoured vodkas but I can literally chug them because I seem to have some crazy tolerance to the bite of vodka as compared to others. Tequila shots are good if you get the good stuff, which I am pretty particular about. Tequila is my "life sucks, let's get drunk" drink. You know I'm unhappy when I bring out the tequila.

Have you ever tried a Caesar? I guess it's kind of Canadian but it's basically a better kind of bloody Mary.

ah...tequila was my drink of choice during my drinking days....now I have an old lady glass of wine or mead....occasionally. The only bad thing about tequila & me....every time I drank it, someone moved the floor. It would be in the usual place when I sat down and when I stood up again (after a sip (?) or two), some stinker moved the darn floor on me! sneaky people...

Yeah. The version I had was made with clamato, me and the ol'lady had a bunch on a getaway recently, they're ok.

Clamato is a little light though IMO, it needs more but then it tastes more like a standard BM.

It actually came out really well. Surprisingly low in acid. Me thinks the left overs can be used for bloody marys in the morning.

Sounds very good. I like to add some lime juice in that mix, and I do like the celery stalk. I use Louisanna Hot Sauce and I put an orange slice on the glass too and a couple of stuffed olives and pickled onions on a tooth pick, sometimes a scallion if I have any.

When I was pregnant I would order a "hot virgin Bloody Mary" or a "virgin pina colada". They were pretty good even without the booze.

You make the third Italian (or part Italian) I know of who doesn't like raw tomatoes. I don't get it. I love a nice big fat slice of summer beef steak tomato on toast, with or without bacon. They are sweet and juicy and just a little tangy. Add pepper - heaven. What's not to like?

I hate not being able to get decent tomatoes in the winter. The tomatoes we get now are picked green & ripen so they look good but they have no flavor. I buy Roma tomatoes in the winter if I can find them....they have the best flavor I can find this time of the year.

Me too. My dad made a fantastic sauce and Italian food. A lot of my Italian friends called it gravy not sauce, but we called it sauce. Give me a pot of sauce and some good crusty Italian bread and I'm in Heaven.

Northeast has the cold water fish, fluke flounder haddock, polluck all the fish that are slowly being sucked dry.
Thats why we have farm raised tilapia and Swai and shrimp, to fill the gap and keep the costs down.
We will see more and more farm raised seafood and fish in the years to come
