The stalemate over funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was broken Wednesday as the Senate voted 98-2 to proceed to legislation that would prevent a partial government shutdown.

Democrats agreed to support the DHS bill after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) agreed to strip out provisions inserted by the House that would reverse President Obama's executive actions on immigration.

It was a foregone conclusion that the President's action on immigration had nothing to do with Homeland Security funding but Republicans wanted to hold the bill hostage in order to get their way. They didn't because it was ill-thought out to attach that to the main bill in an attempt to undo the President's actions. Hopefully, they'll learn next time around to quit attaching such amendments to otherwise important and much needed legislation as the American people will not stand for it and it can only cause undue delays in taking action on the necessary bills.

"immigration had nothing to do with Homeland Security funding"

Au contraire my young friend. Immigration falls under the DHS umbrella. All this talk about *a clean bill* is just clap-trap.

It doesn't have anything to do with Homeland Security. The immigration issue Republicans constantly bring up is about mere intolerant prejudice, that's all.

Conservatives should not get discouraged and give up yet.

if Repubs have balls to play hardball they can now send a bill to obumer that refunds his executive amnesty.
