Md. man found guilty in renewable energy scheme (http://www.chron.com/business/article/Md-man-guilty-on-all-counts-in-biodiesel-trial-3659674.php)
A Maryland man accused of selling millions of dollars in fraudulent renewable energy credits was convicted Monday on all 42 counts against him, including money laundering, wire fraud and violations of the Clean Air act.

Rodney Hailey was accused of selling $9.1 million in credits for biodiesel fuel his company didn't produce, spending the money on cars, jewelry and property, according to prosecutors. After deliberating little more than an hour, a trial jury convicted him.

Prosecutors said in closing arguments earlier Monday that Hailey produced nothing but lies....

Hailey's case is one of several nationwide that have unveiled problems with the program and led to calls in Congress for a review by lawmakers, saying EPA management of the program appears to have exacerbated the situation.

The EPA has said that program regulations make it clear that buyers must make sure they use valid credits. However, the agency has also said changes are being made to reduce the potential for fraud....

It's a shame this might reflect on efforts to R&D renewables.

It's government provides the political means by which such fraud can run into millions of our tax dollars.

In the market, a company that failed to produce goods and/or services, would be run out of business and sued.

Indeed, here the government has created laws that lead to a problem, namely crony capitalism, and now the government wants to create more laws to fix those. But with their track record they will only create more problems.

Unfortunately society doesn't seem willing to control the massive corporations; so government has to. Otherwise you will be slaves to corporations.

Google Says Will Use 100 Percent Renewable Energy by 2017
December 06, 2016 - Search giant Google says it will use 100 percent renewable energy by 2017, according to a post on the company’s blog.

Google Senior Vice President of Technical Infrastructure Urs Hölzle said renewable energy will power Google’s data centers and offices around the world. According to the post, Google uses incredible amounts of energy to process trillions of searches per year. On Google’s YouTube video platform, people upload 400 hours of video every minute, the company said. “Our engineers have spent years perfecting Google's data centers, making them 50 percent more energy efficient than the industry average,” Hölzle wrote. “But we still need a lot of energy to power the products and services that our users depend on.”

He added that the company has been buying renewable energy since 2010 when it bought “all the electricity” produced by a 114-megawatt wind farm in Iowa. “Today, we are the world’s largest corporate buyer of renewable power, with commitments reaching 2.6 gigawatts (2,600 megawatts) of wind and solar energy,” Hölzle wrote.

Google says the price of renewable energy is falling, citing that wind and solar have become 60 and 80 percent cheaper respectively. Google said the company is involved in 20 renewable energy projects worldwide.

Wind Passes Water as US Renewable Energy Source
February 09, 2017 - Wind energy has surpassed hydropower as the biggest source of renewable electricity in the United States following the sector’s second-biggest quarter ever for new installations, a wind industry trade group said Thursday.

Wind installations totaled 82,183 megawatts at the end of 2016, enough to power 24 million homes, the American Wind Energy Association said in its fourth-quarter market report. By comparison, U.S. hydroelectric capacity is about 80,000 megawatts, according to the federal Energy Information Administration.

Big fourth quarter for wind

Wind installations soared to 6,478 MW in the fourth quarter, accounting for nearly 80 percent of all of last year’s wind installations. The fourth quarter was the industry’s largest for installed capacity since the fourth quarter of 2012. The 8,303 MW added for the year represented more than $13.8 billion in investment. Just three turbine makers — General Electric Co, Vestas Wind Systems A/S and Siemens AG — accounted for up to 95 percent of the U.S. turbine market in 2016.

Texas has more than 20 MW of installed wind capacity, or nearly a quarter of the market. Iowa is the second-biggest wind state, and Oklahoma overtook California for third place at the end of 2016. The first offshore wind project in the United States also came online in the fourth quarter, the 30 MW Block Island wind farm off the coast of Rhode Island.

More wind power coming

More than 10,000 MW of wind is under construction in the United States, about half of which is in Texas. New Mexico’s wind industry is growing rapidly, with 1,300 MW under construction. Once completed, those projects will double the size of New Mexico’s installed wind capacity. Corporations and others outside the utility industry have become major purchasers of wind energy, accounting for 39 percent of capacity contracted in 2016. Projects for Google, Amazon and General Motors were completed in the fourth quarter.

Okay. What do consumers do for reliable energy?

Okay. What do consumers do for reliable energy?

It is just supplemental at this point. We need knew battery tech and an advanced grid to use wind and solar 24/7. We need a new grid anyway to harden it against EMPs and solar flares.
