Madison is a college town. The pictures of the protesters from yesterday(?) were obviously of college age. Compared to Texas, UW is whiter than a tennis tournament in the Hamptons, but they do have a large contingent of Amer-Asians here. I overheard a senior working in a store trying to explain Ethics to a work colleague and ended up in a general discussion about ethics, West Pacific politics/economics/military and problems associated with the possible reunification of Korea using East/West Germany as an example.

It's a pretty liberal town, but State street, the street leading from the Capitol building to the campus, is loaded with shops, bars and eateries.
