It's not enough that we have allowed ourselves to become dependent upon foreign oil for our daily lives , but apparently we have learned nothing.
We are now doing the same damned thing with rare earth minerals. I was just watching 60 minutes and incredably China now controls 90% of the flow of "rare Earth Minerals" which are used in a host of electronics, including, get this our DEFENSE SYSTEMS! Obama has essentially chastized China for manipulating the market, you know the kind of thing our megacorps do world wide on a daily basis.
Technology and progress move forward without any common sense management.
It's mind blowing!

The point is we need some common sense planning about what we should do vs. just up and doing what we can do with no foresight

Well done.

Our corporations didn't do that. The Chinese government turned to state capitalism and became a superpower on the backs of its own people.

WHat do you expect of statist solutions?

Central planning and common sense are antonyms.

Rare earth minerals are one of the few things that the US has to trade for.

Actually eating dogs and cats is not necessarily a sign of poverty. It takes more food that you could eat to raise a carnivore than you will ever get back from that carnivore. Might even be a sign of affluence
