View Full Version : O’Malley boosters say 2016 bid increasingly likely

Very Interesting, I need to find out more about what this guy is about.

Martin O’Malley's leading supporters left an afternoon gathering in Baltimore on Monday more convinced than ever that he will move forward with a 2016 presidential bid, several participants in the event said.
The former Maryland governor, who’s said he will probably make a decision by May, huddled with more than 150 donors and other boosters at the Baltimore Hilton for what was billed as an “issues conference.” (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/03/23/back-from-iowa-omalley-meets-with-donors/) The event was closed to the press and included discussions about foreign policy, health care and education.
Though O’Malley said nothing explicit about his plans, those in attendance said his upbeat nature and assessments offered by top political aides gave them the distinct impression that he is willing to challenge Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic nomination, however long the odds (http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/md-politics/if-he-runs-for-president-in-2016-martin-omalley-will-again-be-an-underdog/2014/09/15/d67dccce-39f0-11e4-bdfb-de4104544a37_story.html).
“I think he’s energized by the reception he got this past weekend (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2015/03/21/omalley-steps-up-wall-street-critique-in-swing-through-iowa/) in Iowa,” said Rob Werner, a supporter from New Hampshire who came down for the gathering Monday. “I think he’s poised to do it, to get in the race. He certainly seems to be heading in that direction.”

Senior members of O’Malley’s political team made presentations, participants said, and a speech by O’Malley echoed the populist addresses he gave in Iowa (http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/in-iowa-omalley-sounds-a-lot-like-a-democrat-liberals-love-warren/2015/03/22/9b254432-d085-11e4-a62f-ee745911a4ff_story.html), the nation’s first presidential caucus state. O’Malley aides said the former governor plans to give several policy speeches in coming months to flesh out his agenda.
On recent trips to South Carolina, New Hampshire and Iowa, O’Malley has been aggressively trying to position himself as a more progressive, forward-looking alternative to Clinton. At the same time, some Democrats have started looking more seriously for other options in the wake of recent controversies over Clinton’s use of a private e-mail account as secretary of state and foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation.
“A month or so ago, there was a view that Hillary’s it,” said Phil Noble, a longtime Democratic activist in South Carolina who’s known O’Malley for more than 30 years. “Now, there’s a view that there is room for an alternative, and O’Malley’s on the radar screen.”

From what I know he is a fairly common sense person, I think that Hilary will have plenty of opposition, especially since the Hollywood money is looking for another place to land

Just for grins, any backup for the statement that Hollywood is looking for another candidate? I hear that and that Hillary's polls are dropping, etc, etc, but I have not found any facts to back up those statements. btw: I don't mean a right wing site full of wishful thinking...I mean an actual poll or something to prove this is happening.

There is just as much speculation that she will survive and continue in that article as not.....which is what I have been saying. The polls do not show that she is in any danger of losing support.

Jeb Bush is the front runner in the polls for the repub nomination. These are the latest polls of that match-up.

Do you see what is happening to her, Just a week or so ago she lead all by double digits, the Scandal is eroding her popularity, but more important her ability to raise money.

That is what will convince others to challenge her, the money advantage she once had made a challenge difficult, now those large donors are up for grabs

I have been suspicious about Hillary not announcing for months. There are good reasons to delay the official announcements (funding laws) but no reason to prevent forming a committee to investigate the possibility of running (which Jeb has done). That said, any erosion in her support among dems is slight. She is still polling in double digits n the dem party....I think the drop in polls that we hear the right cheering is a drop of about 3 points over 2 years ago.

Shes had her comittee organized for years. Shes not a noob pol like the others starting from scratch she has all that in place already. Shes already chosen a campaign president.

I think shes holding back to see if she slips too much, she wont run and embarass herself again.

Yes, check him out. Check out how he raised out taxes and introduced new fees over 40 times. Check out how he ran 30,000 small businesses out of our state. Check out how many Marylanders split to avoid all of his disasterous policies. And then check out how the left still praises him.

He has been trying to set himself up for president since 2000, when he was Mayor of Baltimore. He ran the city down worse than it was, then started on the state. Maryland rejected his policies and taxes by refusing to elect his protégé, who would have followed his lead completely. O'Malley is too full of himself to admit that, but the state came out in bi-partisan fashion to say we wanted change. Let me remind you that I am talking about Maryland... one of the bluest states in the union.

I realize that the only reason his name is even coming up is because the left is afraid their chances are slipping away with Hillary, but this guy is snake oil salesman, who is only worried about his own legacy and bank account. Hell, he even just bought a mansion in Delaware, so he wouldn't have to pay his own taxes. I am pretty sure the mansion was bought with part of our missing transportation funds too, but can't prove it.

Zelmo, YOU are a fairly common sense person. O'Malley, not so much. Check out how your business would have done in Maryland under his leadership. I'd be willing to bet you would've said fuck you, and left as quick as you could. Check it out and imagine it nationwide.

Maryland set to replace troubled health exchange with Connecticut’s system

By Mary Pat Flaherty and Jenna Johnson, Published: March 28 [2014]

Maryland officials are set to replace the state’s online health-insurance exchange with technology from Connecticut’s insurance marketplace, according to two people familiar with the decision, an acknowledgment that a system that has cost at least $125.5 million is broken beyond repair.

Like Maryland, Connecticut was one of the first and most enthusiastic states to embrace the idea of building its own insurance exchange rather than using a federal site to implement the law’s sweeping changes in health-care coverage.

But unlike Maryland, where the system crashed within moments of launching and has limped along ever since..........

Maryland is not alone in having deep-seated problems with its health marketplace. Technical issues also have plagued Oregon, Minnesota and Hawaii. But Maryland will be the first to walk away from its site, a particular embarrassment for Lt. Gov. Anthony G. Brown (D), who was placed in charged of implementing health-care reform in Maryland by Gov. Martin O’Malley (D).

http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/maryland-set-to-abandon-troubled-health-exchange-adopt-connecticuts-system/2014/03/28/ef6a3a3e-b6d2-11e3-8cc3-d4bf596577eb_story.html

The Maryland Democrats spent $125.5 million taxpayers dollars on a system "that crashed within moments of launching"! Now, they're going to spend more to buy someone else's system? This is the "go to" guy for the democrats? :loco:

O'Malley is very progressive. But he would be better than Hillary.
