View Full Version : Great article on Perry and Global Warming

Snip

Progressives like to cloak their policy preferences in the mantle of science, but they do not in fact give a fig about science, which for them is only a vehicle to be ridden to the precise extent that it is convenient. This is why they will ask what makes Rick Perry qualified to disagree with the scientific establishment, but never ask the equally relevant question of what makes Jon Huntsman qualified to agree with it. So long as they are getting the policies they want, they don’t care. If you want to see how dedicated a progressive is to dispassionate science, spend two minutes talking about the heritability of intelligence. You’ll be up to your neck in witchcraft and superstition and evasion in no time at all. (If you want to test a progressive’s faith in rigorous scholarship more broadly, ask him about gains from trade and comparative advantage, realities that are as solid as anything social science has to offer.)

Perry is making an error by approaching these questions as though they were scientific disputes and not political ones. The real question about global warming isn’t whether one computer simulation or another is the better indicator of what our climate will be like a century hence, it is whether such policies as envisioned by the environmentalist-anti-capitalist green coalition are wise. They are not. Evolution is a public question not because politicians have anything intelligent to say about the science, but because the question provides a handy cudgel to those who wish to beat the Judeo-Christian moral tradition into submission in the service of managerial progressivism. Perry should talk about that, not about alleged “gaps” in the scientific evidence, about which neither he nor his questioners nor the great majority of his critics nor the great majority of his supporters knows the first thing.

It is silly and more than a bit transparent when Pols try to discuss scientific concepts they know little about. But to most people, they don't know the difference so I suspect it's all part of the strategy. That would be an interesting tact, to just point out that the science is unknown but the political angles are very clear.

That and economics too.....except for the fact that they should know how to count.

I agree that Perry should be quiet regarding economics and science. It is clear he doesn't know much of anything about those subjects. He's the product of a poor education and panders to those who are similarly ignorant.

hey man thanks for those kind words..I have been having some issues at home and haven't posted much.. The DRs are telling us that my wife may have to have a blockage removed from her arteries around the heart.. they are going to run some more tests in a couple of weeks.. Her blood pressure has been kinda of high the last couple of years and she has been on lisinapril ( sp?) and she has been having really bad headaches and shortness of breath.. we went to the DR and her Blood pressure was 190 over 90 and her pulse was at 42.. so they did a EKG and said there was a problem .. now we see a specialist and go from there..

don't want to bother any of you with our problems but I thought I would explain the absence..

oh I just think it is hilarious the way you are always slamming everything that is republican, especially when it concerns people you are diametrically opposed to simply because they are on the right,, you sit here knocking guys like Perry, Ron Paul etc.. and swallow the pablum that is fed yo you by MSN and other far left dip sticks,,

you are like an arm chair quarterback,, not good enough to play the game but have an opinion on each play..

I will contend that you are a pretty sharp guy and have a mind like a steel trap.. the problem with that is once the trap closes no other thoughts can get in.

sorry to be so harsh with you but that is the way I read you..

Pendragon

What makes you think I am not good enough to play the game? How do you know anything about me?

wingrider
08-25-2011, 07:45 PM
not really pendragon,, I spend more time making fun of the left than I do actually bashing them.. i wait until i see what their mindset is before I say anything, and when I see that they are all about redistributing wealth, pro illegal immigration , or believe that their side has all the answers and no one elses opinions or programs matter then I let em have it.

No one side has all the answers,, but there are fundamental principles that have to remain inviolate. so far most on the left are diametrically opposed to the principles I stand for.

when I see those of you on the left following the same pattern as Obama in blaming the right, Bush and the teaparty for everything, then I know that they are nothing but a partisan hack.

"It has never worked and it has resulted in the deaths of tens of millions human beings at the hands of their own government. If you'd like to think of yourself as a good communist that's fine but it's also silly."

"Will it? Or will your reaction just reveal your own preconceptions ans[ed: SIC] prejudices?"

"Can liberals actually argue their point of view instead of attacking their opponents personally?"

"That's an exceedingly odd thing to say."

"That is, if you don;t agree with me you must be morally bankrupt. It's tiresome."
