Some in the American fashionistas think the First Lady should wear more homegrown designers, but she says she wants to focus more on her causes and less on her clothes.

Last month, Michelle Obama incensed the American fashion industry by wearing a dress by British designer Alexander McQueen to the China state dinner. Designer Oscar de la Renta questioned (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/01/21/michelle-obama-state-dinner-oscar-de-la-renta_n_812043.html) the decision, given that the visit was meant to promote American-Chinese trade.

The First Lady responded to the criticism on ABC's "Good Morning America" saying her motto was (http://www.politicsdaily.com/2011/01/29/michelle-obama-shrugs-off-oscar-de-la-renta-jab-women-wear-wh/) "wear what you love" and adding that she needs to devote her attention to her core issues such as health and military families, not the fashion industry. That only further incensed fashionistas, and this week Obama again addressed the issue at a White House lunch (http://www.politico.com/click/stories/1102/michelle_obama_on_what_she_wears.html), saying "I like to patronize American designers," but, in the end, "clothes are just the thing that you wear to do the stuff you need to do."

Seems the Ladies of the Rant here.....were onto the Alleged Style of Michelle Obama. As one can see even as a Black Woman, she has no style. Even your average Black Woman dresses 3 times better than Michelle. Truly people need to look at Michelle for what she really is. :icon_geek:

A GEEK, A NERD, a woman of no style and grace. Leaving all others with nothing but a look of disgust on their face.
Shake it to the left, shake it the right, just thinking bout Michelle. Can cause some to go into fright.
Halloween comes but one time a year, don't leave fashion to Michelle Obama, or we all will have something to fear. :sign14:

MICHELLE OBAMA: POWER FASHION

Michelle Obama truly is the First Lady of Fashion. The gorgeous, statuesque Obama is a mix-and-match master with a soft spot for Thakoon and Jason Wu. In terms of heightened fashion-biz buzz, the First Lady is well on her way to leaving a stylish legacy on par with those other White House arbiters, Jacqueline Kennedy and Nancy Reagan.

That's some lovely and very clever lady you people have . Not often enough that you have somebody to be rightly proud of .

I posted this on the other thread ( Tacky2) , privately amazed at the anger she gives rise to among less sophisticated Republicans . I could hardly believe the Alexander McQueen story . That's just ignorance in these times . Her responses are very balanced and nice to hear .
As for the comments here about her . They defy belief .
If there was a major thread of truth in them , they still would be unnecessarily coarse , cruel and rather sad . If they had been written by white guys , all sorts of interesting explanations would have crossed ones mind . imo .

I'm Sorry using Old Sofa Patterns from the 30-s an the 40's maybe considered a style. IMO they just wanted a fabric that would stop and azz from being worn out and since she don't look good in blue jeans. They went with what was easy. :afro:

If there was a major thread of truth in them , they still would be unnecessarily coarse , cruel and rather sad . Well, get used to it. We don't like her. We don't like him. We don't like the way he's let us down and made things worse with his thinly disguised Marxist/globalism agenda.we follow him and what he's
doing as closely as can be, considering how much is kept secret by this "transparent" lying, promise-breaking, statist, money-printing, regulation burgeoning, economy killing admin.

Furthermore, her fashion sense is truly abysmal. Her :point:"style" :smiley_ROFLMAO: is NOT catching on, btw. No one wants to dress like her.

By the way, CG, public figures are fair game. You have your own laughing stocks to lampoon, no?

'Overdressed' By Elizabeth Cline: Author On Why Michelle Obama's Fashion Choices Need Some
The Huffington Post
"I think it's ridiculous that she's always lauded as this example of democratic fashion or that she's so American because her fashion is accessible," Cline told The Huffington Post. "The reality is that the garment and textile trade has been a dying industry for the last 10 years. So why are we so excited when we see our first lady in cheap, imported clothes?"

"There used to be a way to buy things that were affordable and made in the U.S. and the first lady would wear them," Cline said. "Now we've got this system where you're either in designer clothes that no one can afford or you're in cheap, imported clothes. I think, if anything, [Michelle Obama] should make people feel sad about the state of the fashion industry."

"They create this demand for products that [consumers] can't afford," Cline said. "And then they'll come along and they'll do a really chintzy, low-end line. It's like, how about you just produce a mid-market line if you're so interested in being democratic?"

Although Cline's approach may seem daunting, she's not suggesting a return to sewing garments from scratch, but rather, as a nation, reconnecting with the process of garment construction to make more conscious choices about how we shop, whether it's by recognizing a durable stitch or by simply checking the tag to see where it was produced. The solution Cline recommends involves no additional money -- just more discernment on the part of consumers. Instead of spending $20 on two cheaply made tops, she said, save those $20s for a few months to buy one ethically made item.....snip~

Many millionaires in the south, you would never know they are. I dated a young man in my twenties that was a movie stars son. I have a young man that visits now and is friends with my daughter. He is nice, good hearted and I know he likes my daughter (don't think she knows). You would never know this mans parents are very rich. He dresses in what I think looks like PJs and a tee shirt. He is going for his 4 year degree this year, I think this is his last year and I can't bring myself to ask him what major. I know it's got to do with math.

I know I am getting off-topic but many with money that are not arrogant prefer a person to like them for themselves instead of money. Money sometimes attracts fake love and friendship.

Referring back to the OP, isn't this the wife of the guy campaigning in a bus built in Canada while excoriating Romney for exporting jobs?

You have to admit, we've never had a POTUS who was such a blatant and shameless hypocrite. That's quite an accomplishment for American politicians, those masters of hypocrisy, I'm sure most would agree.

I prefer jeans and a button down shirt myself, with tennis shoes. Now when I was younger, I did quote dress up and still do when I have to.

I'm trying to think why I should worry about what she and her husband wear. Worrying about what they do and say and what it's costing me keeps me busy enough.
